One more year, the Xàbia Folk festival delves into the town's cultural programming, and there are now 22 editions. This traditional roots music festival has, in 2024, a novelty, thus opening the doors to a new audience and a new space.
At the festival's presentation event, the Councilor for Culture, Parties and Education, Mavi Pérez, together with members of the Romàntica del Salador, Tolo Bas and Joan Buigues, organizer of the event, have announced the names of the groups that make up this year's poster.
As usual, first a presentation concert will be held on April 26, at 20:00 p.m., at the House of Culture, led by the group 'Krama', directed by the Greek, based in Valencia, Spyros Kaniaris. Later, from May 10 to 12, "the main course" will come with the celebration of Xàbia Folk and the performances of 'Sons d'Embat', led by the Ontinyent accordionist Pau Barberá and which is made up of six musicians from Valencia , Catalonia and Andalusia. This concert will be the one that opens the festival on May 10, at 22:30 p.m., in the Plaza de la Constitución.
On May 11, at 22:30 p.m., also in the Plaza de la Constitución, it will be the time of 'Acetre', one of the most veteran and emblematic groups of the folk scene of Extremadura that was created in 1976 and is based his music in the mestizaje.
In the concept of small-format concerts, the following will be in Xàbia: 'Alicornio', a folk duo originally from Valladolid that performs songs and themes from the Valladolid tradition. Their concert will be on May 11, at 19:30 p.m., at the Casa de Cultura and the duo 'Bruel', born in 2006 as an alloy in the field of traditional violin, popular song and dances of the Ancient Catalonia will be the one who puts the final touch on this edition with the closing concert at the Hermitage of Santa Llúcia.

Among the six concerts is a novelty, the 'Pep López i Sopars de Duro' concert. A children's entertainment performance that will take place on the basketball court of the CEIP Port of Xàbia, thus opening the festival to another urban center in the town and opening itself to the young public, "an initiative that began in the first editions, had been lost and now we are recovering," indicates Joan Buigues from the Romàntica del Saladar.
'Pep López i Sopars de Duro' is a musical group especially intended for family audiences. His productions have been present in various countries in Europe, Latin America and Catalonia.
The Xàbia Folk is a festival focused on popular music, roots music and with the aim of promoting this type of culture, "all concerts will be free," said Pérez, who added that "Xàbia Folk is the representation "a commitment to our roots, our history and our music."
