Xàbia will debate the Municipal Plan of Drug Addiction for the next three years

The new municipal plan of drug addiction of Xàbia will be discussed next Friday, December 22, in the plenary session. This document will be the road map that will mark all the actions to be carried out, during the next three years, to prevent addictions of substances such as alcohol, tobacco or cannabis, in activities such as gambling or the most recent, related to internet and smartphones.

The Plan has been prepared according to the results of the last analysis of the reality of the problem of drug addiction in Xàbia by the municipal service technician Community Prevention Unit in Addictive Behaviors (UPCCA). This new guide reviews all the assistance resources available to the municipality to prevent and treat this problem, from the health, educational and social media, to the specific ones such as the aforementioned unit, the health services of the Regional Ministry of Health and the regional association. ACOMAAD, which provides help and support to drug addicts and their families.

Data from the last local study

The study carried out by the UPCCA in the 2014 year with students from 3º and 4º ESO and 1º and 2º from FPB concluded that the highest consumption of addictive substances are alcohol, tobacco and cannabis, in this order, and that their consumption continues being associated with free time and leisure being the average age of start around the 13 and 14 years and for the rest of illegal drugs start from the 15 years.

Given the results of the study and despite the actions carried out by UPCCA in the last nine years in different areas, from the department that heads Pepa Gisbert, point out that information and awareness campaigns among adolescents on the risks associated with drug use will continue. The Plan also highlights the commitment to healthy leisure such as sports and cultural activities and the programming of various courses and workshops to stimulate local work activity (Creama) and promote health (Red Cross Jávea).

New technologies

Since most schools have shown great concern for the problems arising from the misuse of smartphones, so it is considered necessary to promote appropriate use of new technologies in children.

Due to the problems of addiction, sexting and cyberbullying due to the misuse of cell phones in secondary school classrooms, IES Nº1 prohibited its students from using these devices during school hours.

At the family level, it is necessary to mobilize parents and train them to help promote healthy lifestyles in their children. Finally, at the community level, it is proposed to intervene during celebrations or celebrations in which alcohol is abused in an attempt to promote responsible use of this drug and for the UPCCA to work hand in hand with the other municipal departments that deal with it. with minors (youth, sports, department of the minor, agents tutors of the Local Police and Education).
