09 June 2020 - 10: 23

Lovers of hiking already have a new route with which to enjoy nature and the landscape offered by the impressive cliffs of the Poble coast.

El Town hall of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, through the Departments of Tourism and the Environment, has adapted a new path to Morro del Roabit that connects with Cala dels Testos. The action, with an investment of 27.643,66 euros (VAT included), highlights the route that leads to this geographical accident with impressive views of Cabo de la Nau and Illa del Descobridor to the north and Morro Falquí and Cap d 'Or south.

In addition, the path has been marked with information panels and the path that leads to Cala dels Testos has been made more passable and safe.

Access path

The route has two options: a more complete one that begins in the Testos and another halfway that has its beginning in the Pueblo de la Paz area (Cumbre del Sol), next to some tennis courts and an old telephone station. . Once you have reached this point, you have to climb a small ramp, go around the green metal fence that surrounds the old telephone building on your left, and let yourself be led straight down the path to the indicative panel and the spectacular panoramic view of Roabit.

With this action, the consistory adds a new itinerary to the network of trails and makes the old wish come true to finally connect its entire coastline, from north to south, from Morro del Roabit, passing through Cala dels Testos and Moraig until reaching Llebeig cove.

"The Poble Nou de Benitatxell has a great cultural and environmental heritage that we want to value
improving connectivity and creating a network of trails that allow the entire coastline to be traveled from north to south, with the spectacular scenery of its cliffs ”
, have indicated the councilors of Tourism and Environment, Víctor Bisquert and Jorge Pascual.

Point of great heritage and historical value

El Morro del Roabit, in addition to an obvious landscape attraction, also hides a great heritage and historical value. It was a strategic point for the surveillance of the coasts in the days of pirates corsairs. It housed an 'estància', a night surveillance site that helped reinforce the watchtowers of Ambolo (Xàbia) and Cap d'Or (Moraira).

In fact, in 1562, the Italian engineer Gian Battista Antonelli made a complete study of the surveillance and defense system, warning that the Morro del Roabit was one of the weak points. His proposal was to build a new tower on it, although this project was never carried out.
