Specsavers Ópticas collaborates with Cáritas in the Christmas Food Donation Campaign

January 12 from 2023 - 15: 44

Specsavers Ópticas, from Jávea, wants to thank the generosity of all the customers, employees and residents of the area who got involved in their Christmas campaign to collect food. Thanks to them, the optician has been able to donate this month 10 boxes full of food to María José Costa and Elly van der Wel, representatives of Cáritas Parroquial in Jávea.

These donations will go to the 334 families that Cáritas Parroquial Nuestra Señora de Loreto continuously supports, not only providing them with food but also helping them with their individual needs, such as clothing, housing expenses, etc. They also organize workshops to help people gain the necessary skills to find a job and get out of the difficult situation they find themselves in.

This food collection is part of the ongoing commitment of Jávea Optical Specsavers to support this excellent charity. In 2022, they signed an agreement in which the optician undertook to carry out a donation of a few glasses per month and they will continue to do so this year as well.

Since then, Cáritas selects each month a person who needs glasses, but cannot afford them, and refers them to the optician. There they undergo a complete visual examination to verify that their eyes are healthy and to know what graduation they need. And, in a few days, the glasses with their prescription lenses and the frames they have chosen are delivered completely free of charge.

The director of optics, isabella fenollar, explains: “We already offer free eye exams to ensure that everyone can have their eye health checked, but we know that many families with financial difficulties cannot afford glasses. Poor vision can further limit job options and delay children's learning at school, which is the last thing these families need. For this reason, we have committed to donating a pair of glasses to Cáritas each month and allowing them to assign them to the people who need them most at that time. We hope that this will make things a little easier for these families and that they will be able to collaborate with Cáritas for a long time”.

Maria Jose Costa, representative of Cáritas Parroquial in Jávea, added: "Thanks to the generous initiative of Specsavers Ópticas we can help those who need it most, from school-age children with vision difficulties to women who need glasses to be able to sew. Many thanks".
