Regarding Xàbia Jazz 2023, the Councilor for Culture stated that the contracts were not made at the end of June, "an issue that the artists themselves also missed." We have tried by all means, but it has not been possible to have the budgeted amount", indicates Pérez.
Faced with this situation, "I had to make the tough decision to cancel this 2023 edition. The artists have understood the situation and have had no problem confirming that they will return in 2024."

From the socialist ranks, the one who in the last legislature was a councilor for the Treasury, Ximo Segarra, reviewed that "more effort should have been made to save it. We also had that type of situation and we never canceled anything. There are different ways of working to achieve it."

“As we communicated to you on July 25, the situation of the municipal coffers at the time we have taken over the municipal government, is a total lack of liquidity that prevents us from facing the legal contracting processes. The cultural programming goes beyond announcing activities that the City Council would be in a position to carry out, it also involves the management of the programming that begins with the consignment of sufficient credit to finance it, and continues with the other procedures for its contracting.
Public servants, councilors, must submit to administrative regulations, and ignoring them results in, at the very least, objections or warnings such as those that the Municipal Intervention reflects in the expense ratios approved in yesterday's plenary session, while delaying in payments to suppliers and service providers, due to unserious decisions taken without planning and in a disorderly manner.
From the City Council we have decided that cultural activities for which there is a budget allocation will be carried out, postponing those for which, despite having an announced date, there are neither funds nor the possibility of carrying out budgetary operations to enable credit, in some cases for lack of incorporation of the remainder 2022 (legal obligation that the previous government team should have carried out in March 2023) and in others, such as the case of XàbiaJazz, having canceled in May the game originally planned to use the funds for other purposes unknown to us.
It has been a difficult decision to make, we have tried through all legal channels to provide a budget and be able to correctly hire the artists previously announced in the cultural programming, the result being the cancellation of the Xàbiajazz festival in 2023. We are aware of the repercussion that this has and we deeply regret it, but we are responsible and our intention is to do a good management with what that
