Preventing all types of behaviors and behaviors that are harmful to young people and advise them of any doubt or insecurity is the task of the new figure of 'youth coach' which has launched the Department of Youth of the Poble Nou of Benitatxell, by Victor Bisquert.
Last July 17, the workshop that was given for the creation of a Violet Point during the festivities in honor of Santa María Magdalena set a precedent. Social Services appreciated a great demand for guidance on diversity of issues by young people, and it was when this initiative began to take place, which will begin on October 29.
This service, aimed at young people between 12 and 30 years, aims to provide information, guidance and counseling with psychological support to treat the most frequent problems that arise during adolescence. Risk behaviors, including alcohol or drug addictions or unprotected sex, are one of the most common problems.
Other harmful behaviors such as those related to emotional problems also stand out - being able to reach suicidal ideas in the most extreme cases - or eating disorders and physical insecurities related to low self-esteem.
Cases of anorexia nervosa and bulimia are more common in young people, both in girls and boys and, in this sense, the 'youth coach' intends to serve first as a confidant to be able to guide in more severe cases that need specialized attention .
Addictions to new technologies (video games, mobile phones, internet and social networks) and the isolation they sometimes produce is another of the branches contemplated by this service, as well as one of the most common problems: low academic performance, many times caused by a lack of motivation, attention or habit, or ignorance of study techniques.
In addition, as was done in his day at the parties of the month of July, the 'youth coach' wants to promote a space for debate, information and advice on an equal basis with the aim of eradicating any type of gender violence among young people.
And it is that the latest figures are not all hopeful that could be desired. As can be seen from the latest studies carried out by the Reina Sofía Center on adolescence and youth, one in three young people considers it inevitable to control their partner and more than 27% believe that gender violence is normal behavior in the couple.
The 'youth coach' service will be available on the last Tuesday of each month from 16: 00 to 21: 00 hours in the Social Services building (C / Mercat, 1). Young people can go directly, call 966493992 or send an email to email@example.com with any questions. As an extra to this initiative, workshops with different themes are also planned each quarter, for which prior registration would be necessary. Among them, sex education (26 / 11 / 2019), risk behavior prevention (24 / 03 / 2020) or nutrition, healthy eating and eating disorders (26 / 05 / 2020) are already underway.
