21 October 2021 - 12: 38

The Library of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has received the María Moliner award for encouraging reading. This award, granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), recognizes the best reading animation initiatives of public libraries in municipalities with less than 50.000 inhabitants.

Among the best projects chosen in 2021 is that of the Poblera library 'Emociona't en la diversitat' (Get excited in diversity), whose objective is to instill the reading habit in children from a very young age, emphasizing the values and emotions, both subjects in high demand by families. Thus, books on this subject have been acquired and an attempt has been made that the programmed cultural activities have these subjects as their central theme.

"We have worked with the smallest emotions through the verbalization of feelings and strategies to control impulses so that it is easier for children to recognize their emotions in different situations and environments," explained the municipal librarian, Lola Bolufer.

This year's campaign is part of the project started in 2019 'Llegir de la mà' (Read from the hand), whose main objective is to encourage the use of the library from the first months of life, creating a reading habit from a young age and promoting family activities.

Since then, within the framework of this project, activities have been carried out such as the contests' A pet for the Library ',' Un poble que Escriu i viu '(short stories),' El Poble Nou en vers' (micropoems), the ' Mural Design of the municipal library', thanks to which the façade of the cultural center today looks the most colorful. Also storytelling and story-drinking, the cycle of talks for families 'Educate in emotions' or the Bebetecaa
initiative that each year grants newborns the library card to start them from the cradle in the world of reading.

In addition, as Bolufer points out, meetings, workshops, mural painting, online talks, etc. have also been planned through the Councils for Equality and Youth. with a group of young people. “Equality and diversity are going to work. Equality between sexes, between races, between cultures… Diversity in people, because we are all different, but with the same rights ”.

Through this recognition, the Poblera Library will receive a grant of 2.014,69 euros to expand its bibliographic collection. A help that, as the Councilor for Culture, Víctor Bisquert has pointed out, “will allow us to continue investing in culture and knowledge, something that our library can boast of, since it has a very extensive reading offer for all audiences”.

Bisquert has also highlighted the great work of dissemination, inclusion and twinning that is carried out from the cultural center, and has especially highlighted the work of its librarian. "The neighbors of Poble Nou are very lucky that Lola is in charge of our library."
