The festivities of Moros i Cristians de Xàbia start with the celebration of its 40 anniversary

The 40 anniversary of the festivities of Moors and Christians of Xàbia 2018 started, on the night of yesterday, Saturday, with the first official act, the presentation of the costumes of each one of the filaes and with the proclamation of parties. A proclamation, which was in charge of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, who showed his affection for Xàbia by making reference to "Xàbia has not been for me a passing port but a destination".

Margallo said that it was a surprise when he was proposed to be the town crier but he said it was a great satisfaction. The crier indicated that he could not opt ​​for any of the two sides that make up the party. Both attract and seduce him, not only him but the whole of Spanish because, as he proclaimed: "All
Spaniards have something of Moors and Christians and this miscegenation is very present in these parties. And if one sees Moro or Cristiano or both at the same time it is that, in reality, these parties are of integration, of coexistence and generosity ".

The presentation of the festivities continued with the ascent to the stage of the festive charges and authorities to start the color and spectacularity of the costumes of the Moorish and Christian troops. The 2017 captain, Jesús de La Rocha, belonging to the Filà Jalufos, they went up each of the filaes. Opening each side, the protagonists of the parties, the 2018 flagship: Paula Andrés and María Buigues.

The presentation ended with the delivery of the witness to the new captains, Fernando Piles and Virginia Castellano, of the Filà Trabuquers.

The most emotional moment of the act came with the presentation of the Sant Jaume awards. The deceased Pepe Such, Emilio Bañuls and Jaume Martín Villalba were awarded for their careers and great contribution, from their beginnings, to these parties.

The act of presenting the suits ended with the parliaments of the president and municipal authorities. The president of the Board of Moros i Cristians, Fernando Piles, and also captain this year, mentioned the great work done this last year by his teammates and the support received from both the party family and the Town hall, police, etc.

Piles pointed out that the festivities of Moors and Christians they are open to everyone, "Not only to the party people, to the members of the parties, but to visitors. Let them approach the houses and also live the party".
