La Filà Jalufos is the founder of the Festivities of Moors and Christians in Jávea, thanks to it and above all, to the concern of its founders, these well-known festivals have already celebrated more than 40 years, becoming historical and tourist festivals, something unthinkable in their beginnings.

Next you have an index with all the points that we are going to deal with.

History

The beginning of the Filà Jalufos dates back to 1978, when it began its journey. A group of friends including: Paco Ferrer, Pepe Such, Pepe Cardona, Pepe González, Paco Parrilla, Vicente Mont, Vicente Montaner, Paco Melgar, Pepe Ribes, Vicente Zaragoza, Vicente Fornés, Pepe Garcia, Pepe Mengual, etc, they came together with the aim of creating and promoting the Moors and Christians Festivities that were celebrated in other municipalities, but not in Xàbia.

The meeting to forge the origin was held in the old Banco de Valencia offices.

Your name

In that first meeting it was already decided by the name of what would be the first family of Moors and Christians in Xàbia. Some names were proposed but finally accepted 'GALUFOS' (Wild boar in Arabic).

The name was proposed by Pepe Cardona because, at that time, he was going to make a trip to Morocco to hunt wild boars, hence his contribution to the name and it was liked by all, so it was unanimously approved by the members.

Banner

The history of the banner of the filà Jalufos is given by the one who was parish priest of the Parish of the Sea, Don Juan Cell of the Visitation, who apart from being a priest, had a hobby to paint and draw. Upon learning that Filà was thinking of making the banner, he offered to make it as an oil canvas.

Don Juan Celda formed it with two black scimitars with ornaments and an Arab crown. Subsequently, the components of the Filà mounted it on a cloth of velveteen corduroy fabric in garnet and metal support.

Although the creation of this canvas was as a gift owned by José Cardona, one of the founders, the latter, when leaving the Filà, did not want to take it away and left it in good standing for the line.

Their first show

The group of friends looked for more components to create that first filà. After summoning them all in what was PUB Jaume I of Duanes de la Mar to explain the purpose, many accepted and created Jalufos, the first Mora filà composed of a total of 14 men. Later, and year after year, the filà grew, becoming about 40 members.

Over the years, as there were many members at first, two lines of men formed, then a line was formed with the members' children, and another of women followed. At the moment it is formed by one of men and others of young people and it is not the most numerous.

The first appearance was at the Fiestas de la Virgen de Loreto that same year, in just three months, they managed to compose everything and took advantage of the parade of floats to perform.

The first components of this Filà tell that "Only we understood that we were before a party that came to revolutionize. Its color and music surprised everyone, but if we also add the slow and slow blackout march, the colorfulness of the costumes, their spears, spearguns and blackbirds, as well like the spectacle of that time with the kettledrums, in which the timpani player jumped over them on the drum rolls ".

The novelty of a filà of Moors in the cavalcade captivated the public.

Appearance at the Fiestas de San Juan

A year later, in 1979, they returned to parade, but before the patron saint festivals of Duanes, they did so at the festivities of Les Fogueres de Sant Joan. The first day of the parade was "awesome", the entire public was expectant, but due to its slow march, people did not wait for the floats to pass, which created a problem to parade the next day, but they did it again.

The following year, in June 1980, when in doubt about going out to parade at the Fogueres festivities, the Fiestas commission in the Frechinal neighborhood invited them to parade in the floats, assigning them to parade at the end so as not to delay the ride, to which They accepted, since the Jalufos, had the interest to continue giving life to the festivals of Moors and Christians.

So, later, they returned to participate in the Parade of the Patron Saint Festival of Duanes de la Mar, where due to the shortage of slopes in the streets, the coupling was much better and they paraded every year until 1984, along with some other filà .

Consolidation

In 1985, the Moors and Christians Festival began to establish itself as an independent festival. By agreement with him Town hall, it was decided to create another tourist festival within the summer season, so it was determined that it would be in the month of July, around San Jaime along with other filaes and creating the Central Board of Moors and Christians of Jávea.

In this year, the Filà Jalufos increased the number of components and created two squads within the phila, being the second squad led by a woman, Nani, who from this year, and for many more onwards, was the only woman who had captained a squad of men in Jávea.

The good bye

It was in 2022, after the coronavirus pandemic passed, when the sad news of the dissolution, and final disappearance, of this filà reached the family of festeros. The Jalufos Filà has been the mother of these festivities, but the lack of participants to continue at the forefront meant that this iconic filà stopped being in her environment, at the Moors and Christians festivities in Xàbia.

Kabila

Since its inception, the Kábila or meeting place of the Filà Jalufos, was located on Avenida Jaume I, but in 1993, due to the demolition of this infrastructure, they moved to Calle Triana, where they are located today.

And in its parades in the old town, Filà had its headquarters on Calle Roques, formerly Canónigo Pajarón. From there they went on foot to the parades or in their classic convertibles, Meharis, full of flags.

Suits

The first costumes were made of Moorish CHANO, later other suits of the same similarity followed, and then they went on to form suits called BLACKS, as they continue.

But as we have mentioned above, the history of the 'Moro Chano' suit comes because when creating the filà and parading just three months after its foundation they had no time to choose. A large part of the components traveled to Alcoy, the main town of Sant Jordi, but there were no suits, so what they found was Moro Chano's suit. It was a white thick cloth suit with cape and pants (keep in mind that they paraded here in August).

For daily use, Jalufos members wear a white djellaba and a red beanie.
