Municipal and Emergency Department of the Generalitat Valenciana, representatives met yesterday at the Javea Town Hall to initiate a plan of self-protection with the objective of making Xàbia a municpio more secure in the face of fires and gain in coordination and capacity to react.
All technical and representatives of both institutions said what must be the work lines to avoid episodes like those that hit in early September Xàbia repeated.
Among the proposals agreed upon are: to make a general diagnosis of the state of the urbanizations of the municipality and the pockets of population closest to the forest masses and from there, it will be prioritized according to the degree of risk of each case and will be undertaken self-protection work, evacuation plans, determination of meeting points, review of access and use by security bodies.
For his part, the head of section Forest Fire Prevention of the Generalitat Valenciana, Jorge Suárez, expressed his satisfaction with the direction of the work and expressed the willingness of the Government to participate in security plans.
First Roundtable
With performance agreements approved today, the next day 24 November, will be held in the city of Xàbia Roundtable first announced by the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the Regional Minister for the Environment, Elena Cebrián. This instrument will create working groups for recovery of damages caused by fire and to plan the future management of forest areas.
In the working groups will be represented Xàbia different associations so that civil society participation in decision making and execution. And that is the goal, according to Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi, “Is to arrive at Easter with the work very advanced. These autumn and winter months are fundamental for the protection of our environment ".
Chulvi noted that progress has been made in cleaning and public forest plots, and added that "It has also advanced in the planning of the security of our neighbors but there is still much to do. For our part we will put all the means to achieve it."
If the City Council as a first step, does not require owners to clean up the plots, it will be very little. Or else, as set their own ordinances that cleanse craft.
