Xàbia approves the specifications of the new garbage contract for 6,2 million euros

February 24 from 2020 - 17: 28

The Plenary of Javea Town Hall has approved the specifications to award the solid waste contract, management of the Ecopark, cleaning of beaches and public areas with the votes in favor of the PSOE and Citizens for Jávea, and the abstention of the PP and Compromís. From Ciudadanos, its spokesperson has been unable to attend the plenary session. "It is one of the most complicated contracts of the city council", pointed out the councilor for services, Kika Mata.

The mayor said that this sheet represents quality offers, which are valued at 35% the economic part and 65% the technical part with the modernization of machines as well as the change of image of the containers. Mata also explained that this contract contemplates an environmental education with waste separation and three environmental educators, monitoring of green points and will require the carbon footprint from the concessionary company, "In short, a quality and environmentally friendly service".

This contract will replace the current one, which dates from 2007 and is now obsolete in terms of the large population of Xàbia. The new contract will be put out to tender with a budget of 6,2 million euros per year (VAT included) and will be valid for eight years.

Opposition reactions

Since the opposition, Juan Antonio Cardona, spokesman for Compromís, thanked the work that has been done in the last two years for municipal technical services, "but there has been little citizen participation and
political groups; citizens have not been able to choose which collection model they want. ”

Cardona has clarified that the new specifications "Do not bet on the door-to-door service or smart containers and we expected more from the new contract that costs 50 million in the eight years".

For its part, Juan Ortolá, from Ciudadanos por Jávea, recognized the work done in these last two years and from the popular ranks, the spokesperson, Rosa Cardona, argued that they have an outdated contract and lack of user responsibility to deposit in the proper place "I like the commitment to environmental education, but it is a contract with lack of ambition". Cardona added that "Irrigation should be the competence of gardening and not of the cleaning service. I have not seen in the new contract container islands, nor do I think the period of cleaning them is good."

The councilwoman answered all municipal groups saying that "It will be the City Council who marks the frequencies of cleaning the containers, the door-to-door service has to be studied and I ask all parties to help raise awareness among the neighbors."

About the staff increase, the mayor, José Chulvi, wanted to make clear the City Council will be responsible for the company that is currently placing a certain number of workers and the one that stays the contract has to assume all the staff. Likewise, the first mayor stressed that the cost will not affect the citizens' pocket, the service will be 34 cents per day.

They are breaking the law. The public contract law clearly indicates that the maximum is five years.
