Xàbia awards the new beaconing plan that reinforces the protection of the seabed

07 June 2021 - 16: 07

The governing board Javea Town Hall has awarded the new coastal marking plan to the company Route Point SL for the next four years and a price of 683.655,87 euros.

With this plan, the beaches, coves and sea caves of the coast will be marked following the guidelines of a project that takes a further step in environmental protectionism, addressing the increase in tourist pressure in certain enclaves, and adapting to the greater temporality of the beaches .

The plan establishes the mooring points for boats in highly frequented areas and in which it is desired to avoid anchoring on the seabed; from areas where historically the greatest pressure has been recorded, such as the Blanca and Sardinera coves or l'Escull de Sant Antoni to which the number of visitors has grown in recent years, such as the En Caló cove.

The Llop Marí, els Órguens or Xiulador caves (in the area of the cap of Sant Antoni), all bathing areas on beaches –La Grava, Montañar I and II, Arenal - and coves –Blanca, Sardinera, Barraca, Ambolo and granadella- and the diving spots for divers are reinforced next to islands, islets, caves and headlands. Protection is also extended in the surroundings of the Illa del Portitxol, since navigation is conditioned in the pass known as the “Freu del Portitxol” (the channel between the island and the Cala de la Barraca) both for safety (the area is narrow and shallow, in addition to being 200 meters from the bathing area) and to preserve the area of archaeological interest of the "route of the àncores" and the environmental values of the place.

One of the main novelties is the incorporation of a light boat surveillance service (from June 15 to September 15) so that the signs are respected and avoid anchoring on the oceanic posidonia meadows.
