Xàbia agrees to suspend the Escoleta and Apertura rates

November 09 from 2023 - 15: 10

The full Town hall majority approved the suspension of the Escoleta and opening rate and the elimination of the update of the connection rate of Amjasa. The first two are suspended during 2024 and the other will be permanently eliminated.

The government team presented the proposal regarding the Escoleta rate, the Opening rate and the elimination of the 7,88% update in the connection rate charged by Amjasa. Some proposals have had the favorable vote of the PSPV, while Compromís has supported the one related to Amjasa, and with respect to the other two it has abstained.

The Councilor for Finance and Contracting, Teresa Legay, defended in plenary that these measures "are responsible" and within the framework of containment "because we do not know if there will or will not be fiscal rules" and the previous work of studying municipal income and expenses that his department is carrying out together with the delegate councilors to carry out a budget for 2024.

In the session, the PSPV councilor, Ximo Segarra, assured that "these measures affect a small part and the entrepreneurs," and regretted that the suspension of the garbage collection rate will not be maintained.

For her part, the spokesperson for Compromís, Carme Catalá, highlighted that these two rates "have a very low impact" and highlighted that "aid and subsidies" have a greater impact on young entrepreneurs.

Regarding the garbage collection rate, Legay recalled that the cost of the service amounts to six million euros "and in view of 2024 there will be a price review." Finally, he added that approving the suspension of the rate without knowing "if there are fiscal rules would be very irresponsible."

The government spokesman, Enrique Escrivá, has stressed that the "concern that this government has is to improve things in the municipality as a whole and that involves also improving municipal management and municipal services."

The councilor continued by ensuring that "in order not to mortgage the numbers of the City Council, these two rates are suspended and the automatic increase that included the rate of the Amjasa connection is cancelled." A "responsible decision that does not condition the management of the City Council," said Escrivá.
