The developments of Javea will have self-protection and evacuation plans against fires

After the meeting to assess the coordination and extinction of the fires that were declared last September 4, the mayor, José Chulvi, announced that it will demand from the Diputación de Alicante and the Generalitat more technical and human resources for the Marina Alta. According to Chulvi, "The objective is to increase the security of its urbanizations and towns in the event of a fire in the medium term. The Xàbia urbanization will be provided with self-protection and evacuation plans against fires."

To reach the degree of protection you want to achieve, as explained José Chulvi, "It is necessary to involve the rest of the Administrations. Also, the general director of Emergencies of the Generalitat, José María Ángel Batalla, committed the sending of experts in the development of prevention, self-protection and evacuation plans.

In this sense, in coordination with firefighters and experts in the field, plans for self-protection and evacuation of the urbanizations will be drawn up. "Not only those to which the law obliges us, but all those who need it, have been received ten, fifteen or twenty years ago. We do not want to assume part of the responsibility, but all the responsibility ", declared the mayor

Impending measures

The fire chief of the Dénia park, Javier Fayos, announced that there will be informative talks with the neighbors about the urban-forest interface fires this winter. In the same way, the protocols of other cities of the Valencian Community will be studied to apply them in Xàbia. The need to establish evacuation drills was also raised. In this sense, the magnificent response that was given to the 276 evacuated to the IES Antoni Llidó, was due in large part to a practice carried out two years ago together with the Red Cross. In addition, the possibility was raised that the IVASPE (Institut Valencià de Seguretat Pública) offer training courses for volunteers in Xàbia.

Lack of budget

The most serious obstacle with which the work of prevention and extinction is found is the lack of a budget. As explained by the first mayor, the population of the Marina Alta is multiplied by 10 in summer but only two more firefighters are added to the workforce. Also due to lack of money, the mobile roadblock (a heavy rural vehicle) that served five years ago in Xàbia was withdrawn and the return requested José Chulvi last April 6 to the Provincial Council. Chulvi said that the provincial entity has the money but can not dispose of it because of the economic legislation of the central government. "17 million euros of the budget have been frozen without being able to spend, an amount of that budget item would be very useful for prevention plans", remarked Chulvi.
