José Manuel García Barragán is honored by Xàbia for his title of Champion of Spain

Last October, José Manuel García Barragan proclaimed himself as Champion of Spain in the Marathon of Logroño and third place in Poland. This merit has been recognized today in a simple act of homage to his effort and example to be followed by the Javea Town Hall and in which a plate has been delivered.

Friends, companions of the Llebeig Athletics Club and family members have filled the plenary hall to wrap up this xabiero who "has transmitted values, perseverance, improvement and discipline", has mentioned the councilor for sports, Alberto Tur.

Tur stressed that García Barragán is an example to follow, "In 2014, it was proposed to get off the 3 hours in the Valencia Marathon and it did so in 2 hours and 30 minutes."

For his part, Madelane Powell, on behalf of the Llebeig Club, stressed that the great person and great professional he is,"From the club we are aware of the level of hours he is training and is one of the best representatives of Llebeig".

The honoree briefly told his sports story: "At 16 years old, without training, I won my first race, La Baix Montgó, after six months I participated in the Barcelona Half Marathon and in 2006 I won the Marina Alta Circuit. An injury made me go 8 years without participating in races and in 2014 I participate again doing it in the Valencia Marathon with the challenge of getting below 3 hours ".

And that success and objective accomplished, is done with solvency with the only trick of changing the way of running to protect the knees. For García Barragán, this year he was the best with the Spanish Marathon Championship + 35 in Logroño and third place in Poland, "nothing is impossible for me", said the athlete.

El Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi, reviewed the fact that the plenary hall is accustomed to receiving local athletes for their great successes, "And to be able to congratulate José Manuel is what I like most. This type of recognition is important for youth. Llebeig is more than a club, it is a big family, it is the triumph of all Xàbia."
