10 2021 April - 08: 40

anar to rent. This was a common phrase in the XNUMXth century. A phrase that is a great history of our customs and traditions. Traditions, which with the passage of time, and generations, are forgotten.

Recovering those experiences is increasingly difficult, but the meticulous research work of Juan Bautista Codina Bas has made this story recover thanks to the publication of the book 'The temps de la renda'.

"Although there is an anthropological void," says Codina, "I have tried to capture my childhood experiences on to rent and tell, thanks also to the testimonies of other residents of Xàbia and the region, what was done during these months ".

And it is that, as he tells in his writings, to rent it is the meaning of harvest, but not only that, but also of customs and utensils, the cart, the reeds and the famous riuraus. And the collection was not only from the grape, as it is commonly known, but from any of the crops in the area such as almonds, olive, as well as its production, the well-known Scheldt Pansa or the preparation of food or other typical dishes or the family structure of that time.

anar to rent It was to move from the urban area to the countryside, but not on vacation as can happen in this XNUMXst century, but to work and harvest to live throughout the next year.

And, The temps de la renda It arises almost by chance, "as a result of another project that I am working on," says Codina Bas, who adds that through the writings that he began, after confinement by the coronavirus pandemic, in Jávea.com, "I realized that this local history had to be shaped more deeply."

The 126-page book has been edited in a personal capacity, thanking the 33 participants for their collaboration, who, thanks to their comments on the articles published in this digital medium, have contributed more data to this collection of experiences, the book incorporates reproduction of paintings by Pedro Bas Codina and Manuel Bas Carbonell on the covers and by Antonio Bas Blasco and Rosa Cortell Valles on the inside. Codina Bas is very satisfied with this specimen, since thanks to the hard work that he carries out, in each of his more than 20 publications this xabiero of birth, one more part of the tradition of the Marina Alta is recovered.

  4. Godofredo says:

The book is read with pleasure, well written, entertaining and with a profusion of graphic documents. For those of us who have lived through that time, it is an avalanche of memories; for young people to discover difficult years, in which austerity and sacrifice invited coexistence. The family circle was wider than it is today and as the relationship was more intense and frequent, mutual affection and knowledge also increased. They were tough but very hopeful years. Codina exposes all of this very well on its pages.
