Cala Sardinera, the virgin cove of Xàbia: location and photos

The Cala Sardinera de Jávea is a small virgin cove located on the northern slope of Cap Prim or Sant Martí. La Cala is made up of gravel and skittles. Its length is approximately 200 meters and its occupancy level is low.

The cove gets its name because in the past it was the perfect place for sardinals and these fine nets were pierced twice a day during sunrise and sunset.

How to get

Access to this cove is not direct, that is, the only way to get there is on foot, from the Mirador de la Cruz del Portitxol or by sea.

On foot, it is done through a path, easily accessible, delimited, which runs alongside an original and intact nature and ends at that rustic cove after about 15-20 minutes of travel. Due to its mountain access, it is recommended to wear suitable footwear.

Cala's peculiarities

As we have commented, it is a totally virgin, rustic and natural cove, so it does not offer any type of service, it hardly has two old houses on the beach. La Cala Sardinera is located somewhat far from the urban center of Xàbia, making it the ideal place to relax, unwind and enjoy the surroundings.

In addition it is usually very visited by sea through kayaks, canoes, zodiacs and pleasure boats, which usually anchor in this area.

La Cala Sardinera is nestled in the middle of nature and with a wonderful perspective of the bay. From this small beach you can see the bay of Jávea, the Montgo and Cape San Antonio.

Services

This small cove does not have any type of service, so it does not have surveillance or maritime rescue, although it is attended by the Red Cross, during the summer months, on its control walks along the coast.

Activities

One of the things that makes it special, given the lack of services, is that you can enjoy its crystal clear waters and its seabed through diving. You can practice the snorkel, and enjoy the underwater wonders of the cliffs.

For bathing or sunbathing, as it is a gravel cove, it is recommended to wear suitable footwear or a mat to lie on.

Parking

To park the vehicle and start the hiking route to access this cove, not very extensive, it is located at the viewpoint of the Creu del Portitxol. However, there is no problem to park as it is not used to being crowded.
