Benitatxell works on a Plan to change urban aesthetics and recover heritage symbols

The Poble Nou de Benitatxell works on an ambitious plan of urban regeneration and landscape that will harmonize all urban aesthetics, recover unique heritage elements and introduce trees and plant species in the streets. The project pursues a very clear objective: to achieve that El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has an identifiable urban aesthetic, which reconciles the tradition and avant-garde artistic proposals and that stands out for the luminosity and the Mediterranean character.

The councilors will begin at the beginning of the year to define together with the technicians a first report. Later it is foreseen that citizen participation workshops and contests of ideas of each of the actions will be organized.

The mayor of the town Poblera, Miguel Ángel García, has indicated that he is worried about the deterioration of the urban, environmental and landscape image. "We want to involve the neighbors in making our streets and urbanizations a more friendly and attractive environment"Garcia said.

One of the first premises is to recover the streets as living and memory spaces. Among the planned actions are to rescue the great shield of the pavement of the Plaça de l'Esglèsia, integrate green into the streets in harmony with the environment, recover heritage and unique elements such as the laundry of l'Abiar, and redefine the Plaça de les Fisheries

Another action already defined is to improve the aesthetics of the entrances to the municipality, spaces that now lack all attractiveness. The furniture, the handrails, the lampposts, which will be all of LED technology, will have a unitary and attractive design. In addition, urban spaces that have been designed without a defined pattern and that are now nondescript will be reinterpreted. One of them is the Plaça Nova.

Landscape plan

The landscape plan will bet on planting native trees and plant species in squares, gardens and streets. In addition, the dry stone walls will be recovered and valued, an art that Unesco has now declared a World Heritage Site. The project also includes, of course, the urbanizations. Its aesthetics will also be improved and the furniture will be renovated to be the same as in the urban center.

The plan of landscape pretends, in fact, that all the neighbors, so much those of the urban helmet as those of the urbanizations, feel identified with their town and proud to live in him.

Another action already defined is to improve the aesthetics of the entrances to the municipality, spaces that now lack all attractiveness. As in the whole project, photo montages and recreations will be made so that the neighbors can contribute suggestions and ideas.

The participatory process is fundamental to the success of such an ambitious plan. At the entrances, the tradition will be reconciled (the visitor must identify at the first glance that is in a Mediterranean village, bright and charming) and innovation.
