May 07 from 2020 - 07: 45

The department Servicios Sociales de Xàbia continues to face a considerable volume of work since the health alarm for COVID-19 began. According to the last balance of the council that he directs Rita Berruti, there are already 850 emergency aid that have been processed and granted since the crisis began.

So far, the Town hall granted, in a whole year, an average of 250-300 of these benefits for the most basic, so the figure of 850 grants in 50 days begins to give clues as to the situation in which the emergency leaves many families derived from the health epidemic.

To give way to this great social demand, the City Council has reinforced the department with personnel from other areas and is now joining the team to process aid applications. In addition, last week two social workers joined, one subsidized by the Generalitat and that strengthens the base team and the other to fill a position that became vacant a few months ago.

The executive also plans to continue increasing the staff in the social area to be able to give a good response to the challenge of returning to face-to-face care. At an economic level, the Consistory has a budget of 2 million euros to cover those who need it most, in addition to working on other direct aid lines and a social employment plan.

At the moment, the aid that has been granted is emergency calls, consisting of vouchers to buy food and basic necessities for several weeks.

At the level of attention to precarious personal situations, the City Council of Xàbia has the valuable help of associations and NGOs that are also responding to this unprecedented demand. In fact, this week the Solidarity Table met to have a global vision of how this crisis is being experienced and coordinate all the resources available to the municipality to manage social problems and care for people who are going through any kind of difficulty.

Mayor, José Chulvi, wanted to thank the representatives of Cáritas of the Parroquia de San Bartolomé and the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Loreto, the Local Assembly of the Red Cross, Todos Juntos Jávea or the Rotary Club, as well as Public Health and of the different City Council departments that are at the forefront of the response to this crisis, such as the Social Services themselves or the Local Police and the Creama.
