07 December 2020 - 12: 42

Xàbia is the first European municipality that has considered the need for its coves to have a self-protection plan. Specifically, work has been done on the granadella y Barraca o Portitxol, two spaces that are accessed through forest areas and which experience greater pressure from visitors every summer.

The forestry consulting company Medi XXI It has been the one who has analyzed all the conditions, evaluated in which situations there may be a greater risk, the means available to intervene and what scenarios could end with the evacuation of the coves or a confinement of their users.

The self-protection plans are already finished. In addition to capturing the vulnerable points and advancing where a greater risk may arrive, they protocolize how to act in an emergency and propose a battery of investments to improve safety both in terms of prevention and response capacity in an emergency.

Now, the Javea Town Hall He will plan the investment calendar according to his priority and will work to find the necessary financial endowment. In this sense, the support of both the Valencian Tourism Agency and the Emergency Agency will be sought, as it is a pioneering and unique project that gives added value to tourism in the Valencian Community.

The actions range from forest cleaning at strategic points to the installation of large sprinklers to protect evacuation routes to video surveillance systems, training for beach entrepreneurs and even the creation of a platform in the sea with a large capacity if necessary. organize an evacuation by sea.

And it is that, for example, in the case of GranadellaBoth entry and exit roads are long and pass through many points completely surrounded by forest, so they could be impassable if the fire is explosive.

The plan also recommends continuing to set a maximum number of bathers, since the possibilities in the case of a confinement of necessity on the beach are limited.

The study has been promoted by the Department of Citizen Security and Civil Protection, within the municipal plans for prevention and action against fires, and has been presented this week to the responsible councilor, Pepa GisbertAnd the mayor, José Chulvi.

With these documents, Xàbia continues to take steps and progress in fire prevention, one of the great concerns after the fires suffered in recent years.
