El Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi, and the Councilor for Fiestas, Kika Mata, have held a meeting this morning with the Brotherhood of the Nazarene to finalize the preparations for the Bajada procession, one of the most important religious events in the town, which will take place next Sunday, March 12.
The procession, which will be made up of religious and civil authorities, will leave the church at 18:30 p.m. and will tour the streets of the town until it reaches the hermitage of Calvario, where the transfer of the image of the Nazarene to the town will begin at 19:00 p.m. During the tour, the band of the Musical Art Center will accompany the procession with their melodies.
The following day, Monday the 13th, a sung Eucharist will take place to welcome the Nazarene and the novena will open, which will last until Tuesday the 21st. It is a period of nine days of worship and devotion in which various religious acts.
At today's meeting, the president of the Brotherhood, Vicente Tur, delivered the statutes of the entity, which include an important novelty: the formal incorporation of women as a single group. This measure represents an important step in gender equality in the religious field and has been received with great enthusiasm by the local community.
The Bajada procession is a deeply rooted tradition in Xàbia that year after year brings together hundreds of residents and visitors, becoming one of the most emotional and anticipated moments of the festivities in the town.
