Xàbia to host an outreach campaign on strandings and jellyfish

The next 15 of July, at 11: 00 hours, Xàbia will host informative acts in the position of Red Cross installed in the Arenal Beach. This initiative is organized by the Oceanographic Foundation and the Red Cross with the objective of publicizing the biological wealth and its current state, as well as the presence in the Mediterranean of certain emblematic species such as sea turtles and dolphins and raise public awareness of its main threats Of human origin.

This first campaign of dissemination by the beaches dedicated to stranding of marine animals and the concentration of jellyfish on the coast will be carried out in other towns of the Community such as Gandia, Oliva, Guardamar del Segura, Alcossebre and Nules.

Fundación Oceanogràfic and Cruz Roja will explain to the participants how to act when finding a beached animal, they will do educational drills, practical workshops and give basic notions about jellyfish. To explain the details of the campaign there will be an exhibition of biological samples that will be installed in a tent on the beach and that all citizens are invited to attend.

This activity will be complemented by the This summer I love you a lot, Whose objective is the prevention to enjoy a safe summer. In addition to giving advice about the prevention of sunburn, heat stroke, digestion cuts, etc., volunteers from this organization will take the strain and distribute samples of sunscreens as well as fruit.
