The Living Chess of Xàbia celebrates its 25 years with a work focused on the sea and recycling

A new edition of the Festival of National Tourist Interest of Xàbia arrives this weekend at Duanes de la Mar. It is the 25th edition of Living Chess. 25 years in which the Comissió de Festes Mare de Déu de Loreto with Rafael Andarias At the head they have carried throughout Spain and part of the foreigner, this representation.

In this 2023, and coinciding with the 25th anniversary, Living Chess delves into a great and current story based on the environment, where the sea of ​​Xàbia, pollution and recycling take the leading role.

The idea arose in 2020 by Álvaro Monfort, a member of the Commission, but the arrival of the pandemic cut short the work and the staging, so it was postponed to take shape on this anniversary. Thus, together with the theatrical producer and member of the Comissió de Festes, Raquel Violero, work has been done on the plot and representation of this story.

The work of 2023: (A) Mar

Under the title A(MAR), playing with the meaning of both words and uniting them with loving the sea, the new work will take the viewer to the depths of the bay of Xàbia, where an ancient civilization that venerates the world above and believes that everything that comes to them is a gift. From there they create their habitat, although not everything is as beautiful as it seems.

This new story, for which a complex game of chess has been chosen, played by professionals, through a digital platform, can be seen this coming Saturday, August 29, on Avenida Lepanto, at 22:30 p.m.

On this occasion, and coinciding with the theme of the new work, the guest of honor will be Francisco Torner, director of management control at the Oceanogràfic of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia and marine biologist, who has promoted numerous projects dissemination and education around our coastline.

The representation will have the participation of a hundred people including actors (boys and girls between 7 and 16 years old), dancers from Endanza and the Symphony Orchestra of the Artistic Musical Center of Xàbia directed by Joan Bou.

The presentation of this event took place at the facilities of the Escuela de Vela del Club Náutico Jávea and the Councilor for Festivals and Culture, Mavi Pérez, the president of the Loreto Festival Committee, Vicente Gavilá, the director of Escacs Vivents, Rafael Andarias and the producer and stage director, Raquel Violero. In addition, the mayoralesas of 2022 and the creator of this year's poster, Iván Buigues, also attended.

In the interventions, all of them highlighted the dedication and dedication of both the participants and the volunteers "who spend hours and hours working altruistically to make this event a success." And it is that, in this representation, the costumes, the decoration and even some musical instruments are made with recycled material, thus delving even further into history.
