Xàbia will ask citizens for their opinion on the charge for parking in La Granadella and La Barraca

12 March 2020 - 16: 30

Given the intention of Javea Town Hall to modify the tax ordinance that regulates parking in public areas and incorporate Cala Granadella and in Portitxol (Barraca), spaces of great value and which are under great tourist pressure in the summer months, a public consultation begins to charge for parking in the most saturated coves in the summer months.

As a previous step to the development of this system, the Town Hall opens a phase of citizen participation to know the opinion of people or entities potentially affected by this ordinance. The consultation will be posted on the municipal website and will be active for 10 days.

And is that, the geographical location of both coves, the absence of public transport and the scarce existing parking bag have caused in recent years major problems of mobility, traffic congestion and, consequently, security. The excess of cars is also a cause of the deterioration of the landscape, environmental and experiential quality in the summer period, and goes against the commitment to sustainability in which the municipality works.

Actions taken since 2017

That is why, since 2017, the Xàbia City Council is applying access regulation measures: lowering a barrier to prevent cars from passing when the parking lot is full and, in the case of Granadella, redirecting users by public transport .

The cost of this system, until now, has been fully sustained by the municipality, so, in order to distribute the costs between residents and users, the City Council values going one step further and establishing rates for private vehicles that use these spaces. This would add to the other access control measures and parking surveillance, all with the aim of reducing traffic flows, promoting public transport or alternative vehicles and improving security.

Regulations for Personal Mobility Vehicles

In parallel, and with a direct link since it also reflects the regulation of parking throughout the municipality, a consultation on the traffic and circulation ordinance has also been opened, which is being amended.

This regulation, above all, seeks to update and incorporate personal mobility vehicles (VMP) as increasingly frequent electric scooters on roads and sidewalks, so as to promote and protect these modes of sustainable mobility and ensure orderly coexistence and respectful.

Also improve traffic and congestion presented by some free and free parking areas, such as shopping areas, downtown area, administrative management or those with strong tourist seasonality such as beaches. This regulation does not necessarily imply the establishment of rates, but may be with other rotation systems.

As ? But if Chulvi does not know how to manage the underground parking of the town. Like the parking clocks in the proposal a year ago without any results, we already knew that the municipal police cannot control it due to lack of personnel. Nothing, day-to-day propaganda.
