Xàbia Social Services tracks more than 50 older people during the Alarm State

Thanks to the program to combat loneliness launched at the end of 2017, the Department of Servicios Sociales of the Javea Town Hall In order to reduce the loneliness of elderly people living alone (Radars), in this period of the State of Alarm, it has helped them face this unprecedented health crisis with some advantage.

The department already had the detection of the elderly in a state of vulnerability and it is given continuous attention and it works in a network with the Local Police, the Health Center and the Red Cross, in addition to the warnings received at a private level.

As of today, there are almost 50 people who are monitored: Since the State of Alarm began, everything has been reinforced this supervision: They receive at least 3 phone calls a week and many who were self-employed, have been overcome due to the situation or due to not leaving home because they are considered risk groups, they are
It has included in home help programs such as SAD, household items, financial aid or lots of food. Some have even been redirected to the emergency accommodation that the City Council has activated.

The technician who coordinates the program has indicated that “The attention every day goes to more. We are doing everything possible so that they do not come out and we are coordinated with the Health Center, Social Services in case they detect new
cases ”.

Point out that Radars it was activated as a response to the aging of the population in the municipality of Xàbia, as more and more elderly people live alone or isolated, with difficulties, or who do not have support networks. The geography of Xàbia is also added problems for this profile - with a large part of the population living in the scattered and that many of the elderly are of foreign origin and do not speak Spanish.
