'Ode to Jávea', by Juan Legaz Palomares

11 July 2021 - 07: 20

The RAE dictionary clarifies for me that Oda means: "High-pitched poetic composition, which generally praises something or someone." I have not been able to choose a more loving and philosophical theme to praise my dear Xàbia.

The immense power of your mountains rang in my mind, green with its pines and lush trees and your blue and crystalline sea. And after visiting several remote beaches of my Spain, I contemplated the glory of your beautiful Bay and decided to adore and enjoy you. My fantasy burned with eagerness to admire you and bring the curiosity that tormented me from one side of my body to the other if I moved away from your light that rises to the highest peak of your mythical Montgó.

Here I am, next to you, your waves, your curly foam with its new brilliance, fearlessly whitens the pitfalls of panic. Restless I look at you to enchant and adore you. In your crystal clear the sun with its majesty dress is camouflaged and hides. Where is your end? Where will my eyes find you? Carried on the wings of your breeze, my yearning spirit follows you day and night until it finds you before fainting in such vastness.

Because the resounding movement of your waves beat my heart. And the agitated swings of the wind in the summer months docile and tremulous bend. I see the whirlwind formed by the wind, and I see in your contrasting mountains also the tall pines shake and roar, for I am not blind. In this lively boiling, these waves that arrive, flee, return, never calming down, while the rocks tremble at the lashing blow. And you, my beloved Grava beach, you stir and shake again and again, the hoarse roar that the echoes deafen and the highest rocks shake.

What wall, what shelter will suffice against you? The waves like mountains rise, their deep tumbles and their furious foam with the fury they show open the heart in my chest. The day has come when, after the anxiety, the victorious step to earth, and roaring inside there envelops beaches and unhappy men and resurfaces your exultant foam that envelops in immense happiness the beaches of my dreamed poetry of my Ode to Jávea.
