Xàbia has two municipal libraries. One is located in the fishing district of Duanes de la Mar and the other and main one is the Municipal Public Library of Xàbia which is located in the Historic Center of the town.
The building that houses the Municipal Public Library has a great history, in addition, in 2003, the Library was valued as one of the facilities of greatest interest and service in the municipality.

History
The building was built in 1982 to house the Social Headquarters of the Jesús Nazareno Agricultural Cooperative. Inside, the building rises on two floors, enclosing, in the manner of a cloister, a spacious patio with rough semicircular arches.
Creation of the Library
In 1986, responding to the needs of cultural resources, the Town hall acquires the property for its use as a Cultural and recreational Center. The Library is then installed on the second floor sharing headquarters with the social center that is located on the ground floor.
It is the moment in which the Ministry of Culture extends its activities and in collaboration with the municipalities increases the endowment and activity of the centers. In September 1985 the agreement was signed by which the Municipal Library of Xàbia becomes part of the Network of Libraries of the Valencian Community and a period opens in which the Library has to respond to a growing demand, with the increase in its funds and the implementation of new services.
Computerization
At the same time, it must adapt its operation to the new information processing systems. At the end of the 90s, the library's catalog was computerized and a first supply of equipment was enabled to adapt its management to the computer standard.
At the same time, the Valencian Public Reading Network sets up what is now the Valencian collective catalog through a common computer system whereby libraries manage their collections and the use of them online.
The Xàbia Library joined the system in 2003 and since then has made all the network resources available to its users. The report made in that same year by the Department of Culture on Cultural Uses of Xàbia shows that the Library is one of the most interesting endowments and the best valued service in the municipality.
Library Extension
As an integrated measure in the new design of the cultural policy of the municipality, the expansion and improvement works of the facilities are undertaken, the entire building on Calle Mayor being used as a Public Library, with which, as of 2004, it will enjoy an area of more than 500 square meters.
New sections
With the extension of the Library, it puts into operation the Music Library, Video Library and Internet access sections. In addition, an International Library service was inaugurated in the four main languages of the residents of the city: English, Dutch, German and French.
In this way, the library reaches the current period offering its services both for the traditional uses of the center and for the new means of access to information, which will lead it in the future to be a manager of this demand and an agent for training of its users.
Services
The Library has a Wi-Fi zone and also offers the use of computers for any type of consultation on the internet. For this use, on specific occasions, you need to present ID. If you use it regularly, you need the library card.
