New closure of the Arenal de Xàbia beach, the third in a month

28 July 2023 - 10: 23

This Friday there is a new closure of the Arenal Beach, the exhaustive analyzes requested by the Javea Town Hall after the creation of the crisis cabinet last week they have returned to give altered values of contamination.

As explained yesterday by the mayoress of the town, Rosa Cardona, during the plenary session, "the controls of the General Directorate of Water this week and up to today (yesterday Thursday) have been good, but from the City Council we hired, as a matter of urgency, a company to carry out up to seven daily sampling at different points, and initially, the results of this morning (Thursday) have only been altered in the Canal de la Fontana, but minutes before 20:00 p.m., when the beach is practically closed, The company has confirmed that the afternoon results are also altered in the Arenal Beach".

Cardona commented that the General Directorate of Water was immediately notified and requested to reanalyze this sampling on their part to determine, together with the technicians, the closure. So, early this Friday morning the red flag was hoisted on the Arenal beach. The Xàbia City Council has received a new analysis from the General Directorate of Water in which the closure of the Arenal beach is ordered due to high levels of contamination.

From the consistory the Local Police and the Red Cross have been ordered to proceed to close it and raise the red flag.

This is the third closure that has occurred this summer, specifically in the last month. The first of this 2023 was on June 27, the second last week, on July 21, and today (July 28), the third.

The first mayor added that "it is a serious situation and they will not stop investigating until they find out what is the reason for this temporary contamination", for this reason, a monitoring process is also being carried out with cameras that are introduced into the rainwater and fecal committees, in order to delimit the lines of work. Some tasks that will be intensified to solve these incidents as soon as possible. "We are going to get to the origin of this episode and we will take drastic measures if it is due to a spill by an establishment or community of neighbors," Cardona said.

The government team is very clear that people's health comes first, as well as environmental protection and certainty for businessmen and merchants in Arenal and Xàbia, in the middle of the tourist season.

PSOE support

From the opposition, the Socialist Party spokesman, José Chulvi, showed his full support for the government team, "we know that it is a difficult situation and making the decision to close it is hard. We see the action of the government team as correct and it is what should be done."

Chulvi wanted to recall that last year, in the same situation, "from the opposition uncertainty about our performance was created, and we think that this should not be done."

Comments
  1. Javi says:

I understand that the days that the beach is open is because they guarantee that there is no pollution problem??? We have been going from Javea to Denia for 2 days, and with 2 small children ... both open and close, it offers me no guarantees.
Next year to a hotel in Denia, of course.

  2. Luis says:

They know exactly what is happening because they know how everything is built and that is why they also know that the solution is expensive and requires a lot of time, the time and money to install an adequate infrastructure. They have stretched the situation too far until it has hit them in the face. Everything built drains directly into the sea, the Canal de la Fontana is used as a sewer. Come on, everyone knows it.

    • Nacho says:

I don't know if it was a coincidence but this morning the truck came to empty the water treatment plant of the La Fontana channel, and after half an hour the beach was open.
When are they going to put more water treatment plants to remove the load from this one, which is small for the volume it receives?
And when are they going to take the emissary to the distance that the law requires?
Jávea lives on tourism, and I think that if the appropriate infrastructures are not undertaken, they will be charged.

    • Incarnation Sanchez says:

While playing with our Health. It is indecency

    • Incarnation Sanchez says:

I remember that when they put on the treatment plant, I stopped smelling the canal, when it passed over the bridge, the nauseating smell came back again, I don't know how they can stand the smell, in the Parador pool

    • Catalana says:

Of course they know where the contamination comes from, they would have to raise all of Javea to channel all the Urbanizations to the treatment plant. Then this water would go to the clean sea. He believed that they would not have money for a work of such magnitude. The best thing to make the partridge dizzy...

  3. Quique says:

It seems that the new team from the town hall is in Babia, because in a month the beach has been dirty three times and they are still looking for where it comes from. Let's see if they wake up, this is Javea.

    • SNORKELING says:

It's pretty clear where it comes from. By the toilet.

    • Marisa says:

Quique, as you well know, the new Government of Jávea has been in office for a month. You know perfectly well that the responsibility for this closure, and all the previous ones, belongs to Chulvi, the former mayor, and the only one responsible in these last 12 years for the state of our infrastructures.
You know that the PP is not responsible but you mess with it for the sole purpose of arguing, for hatred to follow its path, the one marked by the PSOE.
But nothing happens, we know your ways, people do not buy your speech. You only get power by agreeing with ETA members and separatist nationalists, nothing new.

      • SNORKELING says:

This is a golden opportunity for the new municipal government to show that they are indeed capable of solving this problem.

      • Incarnation Sanchez says:

And e pp with VOX, and in Vitoria with Bildu, get to work, we've had three beach closures in one month.

      • Quique says:

I don't know if this comment means that Arenal wants to separate itself from Javea, but this is not what the repeated closure of the beach is about, but knowing how to do what one commits to, and work, without force leaving by voice .There are those who say that the pacts of losers are not good, although I do not believe it.

  4. Vicente says:

    Outdated infrastructures.

  5. Malcom says:

But then, smiling in the photos presenting anything, inconsequential, was it not enough for this whole issue to be solved ONLY?

I thought that doing the Pool of the Port would fix EVERYTHING, what a disappointment.

The sensation of a family arriving in Jávea today to enjoy their holidays is fantastic.

Thank you Chulvi for being mayor of Jávea for 12 years, I hope they vote for you again and enjoy your know-how.

    • Salvador says:

The photo with the sculpture of Sorolla in the Port...
That did not solve all the shortcomings of Jávea ???
      Trash cans without pedals
Pollution of the sea by obsolete and pirate sewage
      Unpaved streets and without light
      Totally insufficiency medical center
Public transport in a very, very poor African country
      Benidorm model construction
      Lack of citizen security
      etc.

It seems that the smiling photos did not work, no, everything remains the same after 12 years.

Hopefully the PP can do something for the citizens, something.

  6. Enrique says:

How this continues, the Arenal is loaded, the beach is a
total crap, for years, nefarious Chulvi is the great culprit and he has gotten off scot-free and now that if he supports the new government this, the new leaders of the city council have to take it seriously, otherwise Jávea will fall into the most absolute misery if tourism leaves, be careful, it seems that it is far but not that far, if you do not talk to the people who come and you will see, politicians or they take it seriously or this sinks

  7. Silvia says:

"We know it's a difficult situation...
    Chulvi says
Of course, majete, the same situation that for 12 years I looked into your eyes, the same
Dog, it was better to do Sorolla things, and Equality things…
    PSOE in its purest form.

    • Erika says:

      Totally agree with you, Silvia.

      • Sandy fed up says:

You all agree, even Chulvi. A good time, illustrious deputy and former mayor. Come to the sandbank, with your team, a good photo and EXPLANATIONS.
A bit of political shame after 12 years...
