26 March 2024 - 07: 58

Xàbia creates a new police unit, the Immediate Response and Support Squad -Esquadra Ràpida d'Intervenció i Suport- (ERIS). This new unit is made up of 13 agents with specialized training in technical assistance to those injured in emergencies for Security Forces and Corps.

The agents will be in charge of all those incidents that, due to their characteristics, require a powerful police response, both in number of troops and resources. Likewise, it assumes prevention and surveillance tasks in the urbanizations of Xàbia. It will also assume control in squares, parks and other spaces where illicit activities can occur.

This new police unit is launched with the aim of actively preventing and controlling incidents that occur in housing estates, massive party events or robberies, among other cases of violence such as a match of any sport, etc.

And the ERIS are a security intervention team that also has all the necessary mechanisms to detect any incident or provide a faster response to the emergency with the use of a drone, or by having professional medical equipment and helping in care. health in case of any accident. The ERIS will provide support to other units that require rapid action.

At the moment there are 13 agents from Xàbia who are part of the creation of this new unit, although the possibility of continuing to increase the units or personnel as the staff grows is not ruled out.

Activation of new Local Police units

In addition to the creation of the ERIS and the reactivation of the Neighborhood Police, with the incorporation of new agents, the Xàbia Local Police once again launches the other projects that were underway:

  • Guardian Agent: This program consists of introducing police officers into schools as a figure of reference and trust for students, teachers and parents to rely on in any conflict.
  • Vial education: This program is faithful to Xàbia, but on this occasion and given the upcoming retirement of agent Jeannine Cantó, who has been responsible for this area for more than 20 years, it requires assigning a new agent for this purpose.
  • Specialized Unit in Gender Violence: The Local Police will have an agent dedicated to this purpose who will assist victims of gender violence in Xàbia, and who is coordinated with the Civil Guard, as well as with the Servicios Sociales.
  • Integration and Mediation Unit: A large part of the notices that the Police receive are for small disputes between citizens and that can be resolved with mediation. To do this, the Xàbia Local Police force will assign agents to this work.
  • Air Support Unit: The Local Police of Xàbia has two drones to facilitate surveillance tasks and provide support in the control of mass events, such as the prevention of robberies in urbanization, the search for missing people, control of the retail sale of narcotics or the detection of heat sources in a fire situation, among other incidents.
  • Canine unit: The Local Police force has two dogs, Kosmos and Khalan, who have participated in different operations to search for people or detect drugs.

With all these actions, Xàbia and its Local Police force show their commitment to security and to responding to all services. The mayor, Rosa Cardona, has expressed the desire that all these actions serve to establish "order and discipline" in the town.

El Councilor for Citizen SecurityJuan Ortolà, stated that "we will continue working to make the town of Xàbia safe and we will provide the necessary means of technology, personnel, etc. so that it functions properly."

This is a great investment in security for the communities of residents and tourists. I would like Xàbia to become an uncomfortable environment for criminals from Spain and other countries. We wish this new squad and the other police units the best of luck in carrying out their duties, our police officers can count on the support of the law-abiding community. Go and eliminate the criminals. Keep Xábia safe.

Anything that guarantees citizen safety seems great to me. But I also agree with Anonymous, since no matter how hard the members of these bodies try, if when the criminals are brought before the judges they are released, it is totally frustrating.

I am glad to finally have more police but this effort paid for with citizens' money will be of no use because the "system" releases criminals again, in the municipality we know a few who have been committing crimes for years and always release them again, I don't understand how people with prior records and repeat offenders don't put them in prison.
