The British prefer to live in Xàbia to Dénia: the number of registered residents quadruples

February 11 from 2023 - 08: 17

Xàbia has experienced significant population growth in the last year compared to the previous one, reaching 28.731 registered citizens, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This data, considered in fact, and not in law, confirms that the xabiera town has seen its population register increase by almost 800 more people compared to the 2021 data. Specifically, 748 people have been registered in Xàbia in the last year. An important figure considering that in the 2020-2021 period, the census suffered a drop of 33 people.

However, the increase in population is not due to births and a reduction in deaths, but rather to the arrival of the population with foreign nationality.

At the beginning of 2022, the number of foreign nationals registered in Xàbia was 12.033. However, just one year later, the figure stands at 12.633; 600 inhabitants have a nationality other than Spanish.

As of February 2023, there are more than 30 nationalities living together in the xabiera town. Although logic suggests that the nationalities of Ukraine and Russia are the ones that have grown the most as a result of the war, the data confirms that this is not the case. In fact, the registered Ukrainians fell by 14 people, while the Russians raised the figure by 19 more.

Now, based on the ranking of the different nationalities that live in Xàbia, leaving Spain aside, the following stand out: United Kingdom, United States of America, Colombia and Morocco.

Population census in Xàbia: how much has it grown and what countries do its inhabitants come from?

The British choose Xàbia and not Dénia to live

In the first place in the ranking of foreigners registered in Xàbia are the British. Of the 12.633 foreigners, 4.954 inhabitants come from Great Britain, representing almost 18% of the total population. In addition, it must be added that in the last year, this nationality has suffered a considerable increase compared to 2022 of 420 more registered people.

This significant number of British residents in Xàbia causes the xabiero municipality to exceed four times the numbers of British registered in Dénia. Taking into account that Xàbia has almost half the population of Dénia, 28.731 inhabitants compared to 47.921 in the capital of La Marina; Xàbia has the largest number of registered Britons. And it is that Dénia has 1.434 registered residents -3% of its population- compared to the almost 5.000 of Xàbia (4.954).

Majority nationality in Xàbia

In second place, although behind the figures of the United Kingdom, and without counting the Spanish, are the Americans who add 1.941 residents to Xàbia. In third place, Colombia is the one that makes the town grow in more inhabitants. In this last year, the Colombian population has increased by 222 people, reaching 869 residents.

In fourth place and as the largest community is Morocco with 849 citizens, although the figure remains practically the same as in 2021.

Finally, it is worth noting the remarkable growth in 2022 of Venezuelans since Xàbia obtained 108 new registered residents from this country.

Belgians, Dutch and various other European nationalities forgotten!

    • Gui says:

Yes, but it's not a problem for some, they think they have money. But it's fake!
Because English has become the language of business, it could be Spanish, but many times the Spanish prefer to fight between Basques, Catalans, Valencians, Galicians, Asturians...etc and they don't know or forget that they have a language spoken by more than 800000 souls living today on this planet "earth"

I was planning to spend my vacation next summer 2023 in Xavia but I found out that the beach is contaminated by Esterichia Colly
Any information about it? Thank you

  4. Jar says:

Anyone who lives in the UK and one day is lucky enough to know what life is like outside the big Island, spends the rest of their lives looking for any opportunity to get out of there.
That is how much they love their Homeland, whatever they say.

  5. Luis says:

Do they register? Really? If the majority live in ghettos or are owners of "tourist rooms" that they manage in black from the comfort of their countries.

Wir vermissen in dieser Statistik die Schweizer, Liechtensteiner und Österreicher.

I don't think there are so many yankees registered in Javea, I suppose it will be an erroneous data.

  9. Tarja Vrancken says:

? hay muchisimas holandeses empadronados en Javea, tambien.

    • Luis says:

What a pique for foreign nationalities hahaha….. I hope that the Spanish one is the main one, since we are, not for anything in particular, you are not going to feel offended ma'am.

      • Tarja Vrancken says:

Offended at all, Mr. Luis, I just hope that in an official statistic like that, it would be expected that the data is correct. Don't you agree? There is nothing to see who is the main one or not.
And of course, totally in agreement with you, the Spanish one is the main one, of course
