The first day of MercatChef Junior met expectations and seeks to establish itself as a children's activity

On Saturday, the Municipal Mercat de Jávea became a makeshift kitchen high-level hosted the first day of MercatChef Junior, an initiative of the Department of Economic Development and the Mercat own seeking that younger have their first contact with the kitchen, know local products and learn to manage and administer food purchases.

Early good boys and girls participants were divided into groups and knew the menu would be prepared following the instructions of renowned restaurateur Tomás Franco, chef restaurant Los Remos La Nao.

As a starter they prepared a salad of duck breast followed by two main courses. On the one hand, pulpita -predominando fish salmon and gambón- and, secondly, homemade burgers. French toast dessert were accompanied by homemade ice cream. Of course, all this is served careful presentation and visual aspect of each of the dishes.

With the clear menu, representatives of Los Remos La Nao explained the keys to buy meaningful, without wasting money and selecting the best local produce. Thus, each group toured the Mercat knowing the best of each position and dividing the tasks. In each team, some were in charge of managing money, other select products and other purchasing.

In the central part of the enclosure it is provided for the large kitchen of MercatChef Junior and under the watchful eye of parents, local and curious restorers, each of the groups was concocting the menu proposed as directed by Tomás Franco encouraged to participate so each active small. The cook showed the best tricks and techniques to properly cook the duck or even chop finely and easily and a salmon fillet.

To the surprise of those present, none of the children appeared embarrassed when peeling, cutting, washing, sauteing or working in the kitchen but showed their professionalism and desire to do a good job.

The activity will be held every Saturday morning and is intended for children between 7 and 14 years old. Those interested can register at the offices of the Local Development Agency and Creama (Avenida Trenc d'Alba number 2) or by calling 96 579 42 66. Classes are limited to a maximum of 20 people and are priced between 12 and 15 euros, depending on the price of the menu item.
