The cleaning of the Fontana canal causes discomfort among the residents of Arenal

February 11 from 2022 - 10: 43

The residents of the area Arenal of Javea have shown their discomfort, through a statement, for the work of a dredger that is being carried out in the Canal de la Fontana. Residents have pointed out that this action, which has been taking place for several days, "causes bad odors and puts at risk the health of the beach itself, which has been awarded the blue flag."

The action, commissioned by the company responsible for the canal, consists of maintenance and cleaning work in the canal itself, in which algae and waste are removed from the bottom. So far, everything is correct, in fact, the concessionaire has all the permits from Costas, for its execution, but the complaint is due, according to the neighbors, "because of its deposition on the beach's own bed of sand. understands that so many liters of dirty water are dumped on an award-winning beach, an activity that puts the health of the area at risk as well as being a source of bad odors for the entire area, "they indicate in the statement.

El Arenal, "between Ramblars and La Fontana"

The residents of nearby buildings criticize that "when it's not the smoke from the Ramblars landfill, it's the extraction of mud from the canal. In the mornings, the cold stagnates the smell of smoke from the landfill in the area and, on those occasions when it blows from the sea, the smell of the hundreds of tons of extracted mud enters the houses".

Municipal Supervision

The concession company informed the council that the work would last about 10 days, so this week, the cleaning by decanting that the operators are carrying out should end. The responsible company must now remove the extracted algae and waste, an action that is supervised by the municipal department of beaches and services.

"Since we learned that these maintenance works granted by Costas were being carried out, we have gone to control the action. We are aware that this extraction, despite the fact that it is being carried out in a delimited area in the vicinity of the Canal, causes unpleasant odors We hope that in the next few days the remains will be removed, a fact that we are controlling and monitoring", explained to this medium, the councilor for beaches, Antonio Miragall.

Miragall has also pointed out that Costas had carried out a preliminary analysis of the action to be carried out in order to grant the permit. The waste extracted from the bottom of the canal is organic waste, an accumulation of dead posidonia together with sand, hence the bad smell that the neighbors denounce.

The beach councilor added that Costas is also supervising the work of the operators and checking that the performance complies with all the required parameters. Likewise, Miragall has indicated that Costas has taken into account the demands of deadlines for cleaning set by the consistory, last year, so that it does not affect the periods of arrival of visitors and tourists.

Why wait until July and the beginning of the hot tourist season to undertake such work?
Javea was always an attractive tourist destination and a pleasant place to live but recent municipal decisions -such as closing the restaurants on the sea front and permits for more and more apartments would not seem to be the decisions of respectable people.

What they do is ridiculous, it is logical that this happens, we are run by totally incompetent people who don't care about anything.

We pay ineffective politicians for nothing, they only create more problems, unable to solve the slightest problem.

    All the best

It's a dirty job to dump all the mud and garbage that they take out of the Canal and then bury, without further ado, with the sand extracted from the beach used to form the walls of that kind of pool of dirty water. I would like to know where all the garbage that they extract from the Canal goes and that, according to what they say, is removed. Because these cleaning jobs are carried out periodically and I have personally seen that, in at least one of them, all that crap was dumped into the hollow of Segundo Montañar, near the Parador, where before there was white sand and since then there is only black mud. disgusting. But yes, everything sucks, it's that they don't do a right one. And they will put the little blue flag on the Arenal beach again...

The plan to destroy Xabia is going from strength to strength.

  5. Pete says:

I have video of raw untreated sewage being pumped into the canal near the bridge.

Complained to blue flag and others. Never got a reply.
Bet that sewage is now on the beach.

  6. Quiet says:

Don't worry everyone, we are in good hands. Competent and worthy people watch over us, they COORDINATE the necessary actions so that our lives are placid.

How fucking scary they are, because they don't give one!

Be careful, do not cross one of them in your life.

    The horror
