February 04 from 2021 - 13: 44

The Department of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility has prepared a territorial study on the values of the coastline of the Valencian Community that addresses geomorphological, environmental and heritage aspects.

As explained by the Minister for Territorial Policy, Arcadi Spain, "This work, carried out by the General Directorate of Territorial Policy for a better understanding of the territory, can be very useful to relaunch the tourist model of the coast when the current pandemic phase is overcome, as well as to mitigate the effects of climate change and conveniently adapt to its effects "

The study is part of the process of deepening and development of the Territorial Action Plan of the Green Infrastructure of the Valencian Community (Pativel), and part of a delimitation of up to 36 sectors of the Valencian coast by geomorphological and environmental criteria among which are , for example, the presence of humid zones, the alluvial outfalls, the capes and the dune fields.

These sectors are in turn subdivided into sections, and each of them has a descriptive card where up to 16 characteristic indicators of the coast are analyzed, such as the orientation of the coast, the type of material, both the original and the artificial one provided, the presence of active dunes and fossils, erosion typologies, human alterations, among others.

In addition, and as a synthesis of the territorial diagnosis, an assessment of the quality of the beaches is established in a range of 2 to 10. Thus, in the Valencian Community up to 18 sections of the 162 studied have been identified as authentic beaches (sections) 10 for its geomorphological, environmental and heritage values.

Granadella and Cap de la Nau

Among these, in Castellón Sol de Riu, in Vinaròs, Cap and Corb, in Alcalà de Xivert, Irta, etc. In Valencia, they include the Ahuir, in Gandia, the Saler, in València, or the beaches of Marjal dels Moros. In the province of Alicante, where there is the highest proportion of values 10, the granadella, Cap de la Nau, Xàbia and the Morro de Toix and Cap Negret, among others.

"These coastal stretches identified as excellent - Arcadi Spain highlighted - are preserved in their entirely natural state and also have an extraordinary geomorphological, environmental and cultural and scientific heritage value".

This analysis, the Minister added, "It has been transferred to a database in file format composed of 162 sections analyzed, which will be very useful for decision-making by public agents when taking into account aspects such as the rise in sea level, the impact of marine storms, the effects of climate change, anthropic actions and responses to coastal regeneration actions, which are increasingly frequent, as has been seen in recent years with the generalization of marine storms and their destructive effects on the beaches of the Valencian Community ".

In addition, the naturalized sections of the Valencian coasts cataloged as high and very high interest and high interest (rated 10 or 8), are fully protected by environmental legislation and Pativel, "with what is reinforced, the conservation of some very important values for the improvement of the environmental, territorial and landscape assets of the Community, but also for the improvement of the quality of life of the citizens, as well as for the reinforcement of the tourist activity that, increasingly, demands more environmental products and related to healthy tourism segments ", Arcadi Spain has underlined.
