The Cala Granadella Association launches a distress message

17 September 2021 - 11: 00

The Neighborhood Association of the Cala Granadella has held a meeting in the Javea Town Hall with the councilors responsible for Tourism, Beaches and Services, to convey the problems faced by the Cala Granadella before the "massive" arrival of tourists.

Its president, Roland Quesada, has indicated that the Board of Directors has sought and proposed different actions in order to be sustainable solutions to improve the situation of the overcrowding of the cove. "Of course, we do not want to prohibit entry, but we do want access to be regulated more so that the environment is better cared for. La Cala de la Granadella is not adapted for so many people," says Roland.

Parking

Quesada has indicated that the intention of the Association is that the parking areas be conditioned and cleaned and above all signposted to prevent them from parking in prohibited areas such as on the shoulder of the road, which is a safety hazard and an obstacle to the passage of emergency vehicles in case of need ".

To avoid this problem, the solution and intention, as indicated by the councilor to the Association, is to put small wooden barriers (as in Pic Tort) throughout the Carretera de la Granadella to prohibit the parking of cars and avoid destruction. of flowers and plants such as rosemary, lavender, thyme.

According to the local community, there are about 500 cars that circulate daily, in summer, through the access road to La Cala, "to which is added that many bathers walk down the curved road, 3 kilometers, loaded with umbrellas, chairs, refrigerators and others, without respecting traffic regulations, crossing from one side to the other, which is also a danger ".

Likewise, the association also proposes to regulate access on Avenida del Tío Catalá only to residents and business workers by installing a barrier and no-entry signs (only services and residents).

Deterioration of green areas

On the other hand, the Cala Granadella association denounces that the great promotion of this Cala through televisions and social networks has caused a great saturation of vehicles and people, "and in turn, a deterioration in the flora and fauna of the entire area thanks to to the organic and inorganic waste that visitors leave us or the parking of cars in green areas protected by Natura 2000 ".

Now, after the summer, and with the purpose that Cala de la Granadella "continues to be that paradise", the Association, founded 20 years ago, as a result of the terrible fire in 2000, has been activated on social networks to denounce the overcrowded situation that you live and look for solutions, if possible with the council. "We want to work this winter with the City Council so that the situation is better next summer", says the president of the Association.

Regulation of the dry dock and nautical activities

Another inconvenience that hinders the enjoyment of Cala de la Granadella is "the invasion of kayak rental companies", explains the president, who adds that this summer "there have been up to 10 different companies with 20 kayaks or more each. a".

According to Roland, "this type of activity must be regulated. The small pier was invaded causing the displacement of users and great discomfort among bathers due to the constant traffic of vans and trailers, causing it not to be used by the neighbors themselves or residents ". "The companies came from different towns in the province, without having to pay a fee or fee to carry out the activity in a public area, as do the hammock and umbrella companies," Quesada reviews.

Administrative predisposition

From the City Council, according to the president at the end of the meeting, the councilors responsible for Tourism, Beaches and Services have transferred their intention to work together with the association to improve the situation of La Cala. "In this first meeting it has been stated from the councils that all security problems, protection of the natural environment will be studied and the possibility of a control in the performance of nautical activities will be studied either by reducing groups, outings, etc", Quesada points out.

In addition, "in La Granadella other meetings are planned with City Council technicians to assess the work to be done," says Quesada.

  1. Pepe says:

Yes, everyone looking towards this tiny cove while on the other hand they have discreetly withdrawn the BIC to the Illa del Portitxol, a juicy area where there is one. Doesn't the PP say anything about this? Is a luxury hotel coming? Ultramodern luxury villas too? Golf course on the islet? Opera house? And it is not the only BIC that they have withdrawn, there is more ... Ambition gentlemen, gentlemen and gentlemen ..

  2. Vicent says:

Well. We must recognize that there is a situation of massification and growth.

Now, is this a problem? I guess it depends on your point of view. It certainly gives me a feeling of sadness to see how some places that were not very crowded before are now almost impossible to go, but I guess this is what they call progress, as unstoppable as a steamroller.

And there really is no remedy for it, it is the society that we have contributed to create between each and every one of us in one way or another. Nothing matters anymore than the superficial, the photo and the pose. It is not about going to enjoy a day at the beach with the family, but about hunting the snapshot that arouses the most likes or envies, even if you have to share a towel with the one next to you.

So life goes on, and we have to accept that certain things have changed and will no longer be what they were. It's time to get used to it, whether we like it or not.

  3. George says:

I was with the family for the first time this summer and I never come back. I'd rather bathe in a cove with worse water than get into that swarm. I arrived at 9:30 and found parking easy and close, but by 13:30 I was totally surrounded by umbrellas and none of them more than 20 cm away. And people kept coming. And on the way back, it was incredible to see how far there were cars parked. I said, I will not return. Enjoy it.

  4. Space says:

Well, it seems to me more like a neighborhood initiative to perpetuate the benefits of a privileged few: let's reduce the number of visitors by limiting parking areas, prohibiting even pedestrians from circulating ON FOOT! On the road, or by restricting water activities since they generate "annoyances" for residents ... yes, all adorned with sustainability and the environment! Have not all those chalets built in a natural environment destroyed local flora and fauna? Are those the same who now stand as defenders of the area?
Let's educate in civics, let's not overexploit anything in general (this cove, building houses ...) ... and let's stop prohibiting so much in this society ...

    • Jose says:

      Truth like a temple

      • Javier says:

It is not about defending privileges, it is about having eyes in the face and realizing that this human mass leaves everything lost, there is not even a bit of civility or respect for what belongs to everyone and they are going to load the cove . And the portitxol, and the ambolo viewpoint, and….

    • Edu says:

      Alright, that's pure reality
And this Roland is born in the cove?
Or they will come from outside and they will kick you out

    • Juan says:

One of the houses belongs to the Technician of the City Council Enric Morera. But the laws are not the same for everyone. You have to be privileged to be able to build in a protected area. But be quiet about this 🤫

    • Sweet says:

I went down this summer by bike 2 times and I saw them black to be able to leave the bikes tied and without disturbing the bikes to take a bath. Please, an area for bikes that between trucks and Kayak there was not a miserable place to leave 🚲

  5. Janet Carter says:

It is believed that those with camper vans even sleep down at Cala Granadella in order to get their space for the following day.
Why cannot a parking charge be levied?
The damage caused to the flora and fauna is immense
Something needs to be actioned regarding this Cala - it will be nor more if this continues

  6. Alfred says:

But what will the government that governs us have to do with the overcrowding and the social networks that advertise all these places?
When you rent or sell the chalets at exorbitant prices, nobody complains.

    • Luis says:

Good note. The uncomfortable truth, what about individual responsibilities? What about all the speculators from the smallest to the largest? They buy a house or apartment as an investment, to rent it only to tourists and in this way contribute to the overcrowding and that citizens who seek to live all year do not find anything, either it is too expensive or that the rental contract indicates that in June You have to leave until October, the month you can return because in the summer months they want to rent it to tourists, we are going to kick you out of your house with all your nose and also they do it illegally since they neither declare your rent nor the tourist. That there is a percentage dedicated to tourist rental is fine, but so many? They are too many.

      • JC says:

Don't mix things up. I have two chalets in Javea, one for 30 years and the other for 22 years. Since then I have been renting them in summer to tourists. Before always foreigners and now always Spanish. This has never happened. The overcrowding of the coves comes from the people who go there to spend the day (I'm not criticizing it, everyone is free to go wherever they want). Whoever pays € 2.000 a week for a villa with its pool in Javea, does not get into that swarm or drunk ... Another issue is, everything that has been left and is being built in Javea. It is what is killing the site.

        • Luis says:

Uhmm…. Have you, felt identified? Your 2 chalets also had the building permit like the ones that are being "allowed" to be built now.

        • Pepe says:

JC has two chalets ... Normal hey ... Who doesn't have two chalets to rent to tourists? Exclusively for tourists and then he complains that now a lot is being built for tourists too, look at where ... But JC has two chalets and whoever says two says three, plus the house that makes him his habitual residence .. Does that one also rent it to tourists JC?

  7. Lilian says:

It is not what it used to be ... it is impossible to enjoy that wonderful cove in summer. At least I have enjoyed it for many years. It makes me sad ... with how good it was there .☹️

  8. Francisco says:

Live Mediterranean, don't let them tell you about it.
You have what you deserve with the garbage that governs the Valencian community.
    Urbanizations do not degrade?
The forest and cliffs destroyed for posh houses do not degrade?
They are the cars of the visitors who do not pay the bus and the kayak companies that do not pay the fee ... conservation they call

    • Mariano says:

If you want, we go back to spend the summer in tents.
We can also distribute anti-tourism pamphlets in the hunger queues that would occur if there were no work generated by tourism and second homes.
If you do not want tourism, dedicate yourself to the countryside in the interior of the Valencian Community that there are millions of hectares that few Spanish people want to work.
I have been coming to Jávea for 50 years in winter and summer and I am one of those who is most hurt by this overcrowding. But, everyone has the right to enjoy this nature.

      • Paco says:

No, not everyone has the right to enjoy nature! Those who do not respect nature should not enjoy that right. Always talking about rights, but rarely talking about the responsibilities we have to enjoy those rights and respect for others and things.

        • David says:

Amen to that. I completely agree with you, Paco.
Not everything goes. Not everything can be excused by taking out the joker of employment and "we all have the right."

        • July says:

Totally agree …. for example, how can you put fifty pirogues in there? What barbarity!

    • Jose says:

Well, the other garbage that ruled before, the courts and jails are overflowing.

      • Luis says:

Oysters if José and they are also waiting and working for when they return, they will do practically the same. For now they are already preparing the return with their performance "The National Convention" in the Plaza de Toros de Valencia, in the purest old-fashioned and old-fashioned style of Camps, Rus, Fabra and the rest of the specimens ... The only thing is that Ayuso has taken off the vaudeville but there they go.

  9. Luis says:

Well, send that message to all "those in love with the granadella" who have come this summer to enjoy, massify and dirty the cove. I am sure that most of them will feel very guilty and will want to help where they can (ironic comment in case someone does not understand).

  10. FELISA BAENA says:

Hi, I have been recently in the cove, it is amazing, it is true that people are a little left and park in places where they do not play. They also have a problem with the ascent to the castle of Granadell, lack of conservation and fixing pieces of railings that have fallen and especially removing dry logs and some burned that are piled up. If it were learned, it would be a powder keg.
