Hospital Clínica Benidorm (HCB) incorporates ultraviolet light disinfection into its hygiene protocols

07 September 2020 - 09: 46

One of the improvements in terms of Hygiene and Safety that Hospital Clínica Benidorm (HCB) has implemented through its Preventive Medicine, Cleaning and Quality Services, it is the disinfection of the facilities with UVC ultraviolet light technology, which kills any microorganism safely, quickly and effectively. This technique, as a complement to hospital cleaning, reduces the spread by contact and the transmission of infectious agents through the air.

How this disinfection technique works

The germicidal UVC energy penetrates the cell membrane of microorganisms causing irreparable damage to their DNA, which in a short time completely destroys them. It is an environmental intervention that reduces both the spread by contact and the transmission of infectious agents (such as bacteria and viruses) through the air.
The Preventive Medicine and Quality Services of Hospital Clínica Benidorm have added this technology to their Hygiene and Safety protocols against COVID-19 to complement the thorough cleaning of rooms and critical areas. Mainly in operating rooms and in rooms or rooms that have accommodated patients with multi-resistant microorganisms or of special surveillance.
This new technology is carried out in compliance with the requirements of the UNE-0068 Quality standard. This is one more step within the Quality and Safety policies of the organization that wants to ensure the best healthcare for its patients and provide the peace of mind they need.
Even with the proven efficacy of this technique, the Preventive Medicine Service of Hospital Clínica Benidorm has insisted that "The most effective measure for the prevention of infections by SARS-CoV-2 continues to be hand washing, protection with a mask, social distance, cleaning with detergents and disinfectants and the application of biocides authorized by the Ministry of Health ".

UVC ultraviolet lamps technology
HCB has the Sanuvox ASEPT.2X Mobile UV Disinfection System that uses two interconnecting lamps without cables that sterilize a conventional room or an operating room in less than 10 minutes. Its management is totally remote and safe for the HCB Cleaning team, for patients and users of the center. Ultraviolet (UV) light is a form of light invisible to the human eye, occupying part of the spectrum between X-rays and visible light. The UVC wavelength attacks microorganisms at the molecular level, deactivating and destroying contaminants. At a UVC energy dose of 400 mJ / cm2, all known epidemiologically important pathogens (EIPs), including spores of Clostridium difficile, they become inert.
