20 2018 April - 03: 45

The president of the Association of Ports and Sports of the Valencian Community, Gabriel Martínez, said, in a meeting with the companies of the marine sector of the Marina Alta, "This region is an area of relevance in recreational boating where about 5% is generated and where more than 2.000 families live from boating.".

These statements were made at the meeting held on the occasion of the LIC (Site of Community Importance) in which the president of the Association of Ports of Sports of the Valencian Community reported the importance of the nautical sector for the economy of the Marina Alta. "Every job generated by our companies has an impact on the creation of seven indirect jobs"said Martinez and added that "here, our
Companies do not fire their workers in winter. So we have achieved something unthinkable, seasonally adjusted to the persecuted seasonally adjusted. "

The purpose of the LIC is to regulate a series of uses of maritime space framed from the Arenal Beach from Xàbia to the Cap d'Or of Moraira. Before this action, the president of the Association of Ports Sports said that the fleet that sails in this area does not exceed eight meters in length, "They are boats that do not generate a negative impact on the posidonia. They are also ships that remain here throughout the year, very different from what happens in Formentera, whose fleet has a seasonality of two months and a much higher length."

Martinez indicated that according to recent scientific studies, "Our waters and coastal funds enjoy extraordinary health, so the proposed SCI comes to try to solve a non-existent problem, unnecessarily endangering the well-being of more than 2.000 families and generate damage to many other sectors that are
influenced by nautical ".

Proposed measures

The LICs are managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment. But the Marina Alta has been considered, by the Ministry itself, as an exception and therefore has hired an external company to prepare a report. A series of participatory workshops are being held and in July this French company must have finished the report for, in the month of August, present the allegations to it.

The director of Marina Nou Fontana, Ricardo Burriel, listed some of the proposed measures related to navigation and anchoring:

-Close the passage of motor boats (except professional fishing) from Cabo San Martin to the island of Portixol.
-Close the passage through the Strait of the Island of the Discoverer.
-To prohibit the anchoring of vessels in areas of posidonia and coralligenous funds with the exception of that carried out in ecological buoys.
-Prohibit the anchorage of boats in the entire area of the LIC if it is not done in buoys.
