19 July 2016 - 00: 00

This Thursday at the House of Culture de Xàbia, at 21 pm the premiere of the short film produced by users of the Tapis de Xàbia will take place. A work that deals with the issue of discrimination suffered by people with mental disorders.

The idea of making this short film comes from the people in charge of the occupational workshop (TAPIS) in Xàbia and the Xàbia Bella residence, who together with the film professor, Ana Perles, devised the way in which the municipality gave an integrating and resourceful image before this problem.

In this idea hundreds of extras have intervened that together with the users of the Tapis and the residence have debuted as actors. Some politicians like Pepa Gisbert, Councilwoman Servicios Sociales and the mayor, José Chulvi, also appear in the short film.

The message we want to give is the opening of minds to accept people with mental disorders and try to detach them from the negative image to which they are associated.

The short film will be circulated through social networks in a few weeks, but it has already been supervised by many of its protagonists who have been delighted with the result.

Note that all professionals who have collaborated with this project, such as those who have been responsible for the direction, filming, editing and even taking shots with a drone, have done so in a disinterested manner.

Tapis Xàbia is a municipal service aimed at people with a chronic mental illness, diagnosed in the Mental Health Unit of Xàbia, who are over 18 years with personal autonomy. Its purpose is to enhance the social-labor integration of its users through therapeutic support and pre-employment training, giving them assistance for personal autonomy and rehabilitation and avoiding their social marginalization.
