The City Council of Xàbia will help the San Bartolomé Church to seek aid to finance rehabilitation

El Javea Town Hall has offered the pastor of the Church of St. Bartholomew technical advice to seek financial aid to finance the important restoration project that the building is undergoing.

Mayor, José Chulvi, met a few days ago with the head of the parish, Salvador Torrent, who explained the forecast of the works that have begun this week.

This first phase has been described as “emergency” since it will serve to seal the cracks that cause dampness and leaks in the temple, the sacristy and the communion chapel. The works, which have an estimated budget of 500.000 euros, are authorized by the General Directorate of Heritage.

Both the mayor and the councilor who is in charge of grant management, Montse Villaverde, They have given the parish all the collaboration to study the lines of subsidy that this project can fit into, as well as to prepare the necessary documentation to process them.

From the European Funds to the line of 1% of the budget dedicated by the Ministry of Development for cultural projects. Also in all procedures or permits that must be processed with the General Directorate of Heritage.

From the parish they have advanced that they are preparing a public presentation of the total rehabilitation project - which would be executed in several phases conditioned to the obtaining of funds - and that will be carried out in the month of March (when the date is specified, the City Council will disseminate of this informative quote).

From the Consistory they have also shown their predisposition to look for the formula to reactivate the agreement of economic collaboration with the parish with which the expenses that its opening for the different cultural events organized by the City Council or the local musical groups are compensated.

The fortress church of Sant Bertomeu is the most remarkable building of the Historic Center of Xàbia. Built from the 1931th to the XNUMXth centuries and with extensions in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, it is part of the Elizabethan Gothic. Its importance and significance meant that in XNUMX it was declared a National Artistic Monument.
