August is the month par excellence, in terms of visitors to the municipality who usually spend a large part of the day on any of the wonderful beaches that Xàbia has. But they also take advantage of visits to places of interest that are promoted from the tourism offices and above all to the Municipal Market which tends to increase its sales these days.
One of the most visited points is the Bar Mercat, Pepe Torres "El Roget de Perol" opened it in November of 1968, Pepe, comments with a certain nostalgia "the typical products that we offered were the cocas and dumplings that my wife made in The flat. We still have the counter and cold room from 1968".
Pepe is now retired and since 1997, business leads his son Salvador Torres continues with the same line as their parents.
Today we also have set off at AMMA, (food from the sea in the Marina Alta) is a position of the Fishermen's Association and can buy all kinds of fish and of course the red shrimp but was prohibitively expensive .
From sea to land and we stopped in Frupaco, stop fruits and vegetables. They have quality fruits, seasonal and exotic, is also committed to selling organic vegetables.
A novelty in the market is a small stand run by Leopoldo Alvarez selling keychains, brooms, small baskets and all kinds of crafts with esparto.
Finally, near the market, in the old bakery of Emilio, is Cristina, who makes traditional bread, as well as almond cake and special bread made in the Arenal oven.
