Consellería reports on the 'physiopathy of Aleppo pine' and investigates its causes

February 07 from 2018 - 13: 37

The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development has launched a campaign aimed at municipalities and individuals to report on the appearance of the symptoms of the so-called physiopathy of the Aleppo pine which has been detected in several Valencian regions, one of them being Marina Alta.

About this affectation, Xàbia.com already done echo, a few weeks ago before the neighborhood warning and the issues raised in the plenary session.

According to reports from the Consellería, "Although the symptomatology is very striking and can affect a good part of the pine tree, it does not usually cause the death of the woodland and the recovery of the lost leaves begins to occur when spring arrives."

Since currently the pathogen causing these symptoms is not yet determined, the Ministry together with the Polytechnic University of Valencia is developing an investigation on the affected pine trees and they have detected the so-called Candidatus Phytoplasma Pini, which suggests that there is a possible relationship between the symptomatology of the trees and the presence of the microorganism.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is monitoring the damage in the affected areas in coordination with the Environmental Agents and municipalities, in order to know the evolution of symptoms and the possible appearance of them in nearby areas or in other regions of the Comunitat Valenciana.

It is important to note that this symptomology has only been detected on pine trees and the specimens with damage are always the same, which seems to indicate that it is an agent resident in the tree that manifests itself when it is weakened by environmental conditions.
