How Javea has changed: images to remember

February 16 from 2020 - 01: 00

The urban growth of Jávea from the middle of the XNUMXth century to the present day has been spectacular. So much, that in many occasions it becomes difficult to recognize the empty places of constructions. We look back and do a memory exercise on streets and sites that have changed a lot but retain some identifying feature. Do you recognize these places?

50s

The severe episode of flooding at the end of September 1957 He left the San Vicente street. At that time, the houses were under construction and suffered serious damage. As you can read in the photograph itself, this was "As a result of water".

A view of the Carrer Nou. The inscription of the cross reads "With this sign you will win"According to several neighbors and family members, this cross was made by Teresa Ramiro, and although it is not known with certainty, it seems that it was on the occasion of the celebrations of Jesus Nazarene, for the celebration of the May Crosses.

60 years

The tourist activity in Jávea began to wake up in the 60s. Proof of this is the construction of the National Parador in the Arenal Beach, inaugurated in 1965 (although the photo is later, it belongs to 1971). Do you remember this old way of selling ice cream? The cones and ice cream were transported in a cart. Pepa and Rosa pose with Fermín Espinós, the seller.

Los 70

The little house that is part of the route of the Javea miniature golf It can still be seen today in the new facilities, which continue to maintain this circuit that children and adults enjoy.

Another sports infrastructure that you will recognize is the Tennis Club. Its cover is like the original from the early 70s.

El port It is one of the places where changes are most appreciated. In the following images you can see it without building:

And a view from above, taken from the Cuesta de San Antonio:

El major street during the Fogueres parties: a group of people pose under the ornate balconies.

Have you recognized the places? If you want to see more images of the past, here is a report of the Spanish Film Library on Xàbia made in 1958, in which the practically virgin coast appears.
