The old landfill of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, the Tossal Gros, which is currently an area degraded by the uncontrolled dumping of waste, will be restored to create a hiking route and a recreational forest area.
The actions, subsidized by the Diputación de Alicante with 20.000 euros, will put in value this municipal natural space that is visible from a large part of the municipality and has a great environmental and landscape value and is surrounded by urbanized areas such as the departure of Les Fonts y Los Molinos.
In the works to be carried out the clearing of the plot with the elimination of invasive species, the loading and transport of the waste to the landfill, the movement of earth and the improvement of the vegetation maintaining the species of interest like rosemary, lavender and mastic is contemplated . In addition, pruning of the existing trees will be carried out and some forest species will be planted on the slopes, such as holm oaks, Kermes oaks, carob trees, wild olive trees and mastic trees.
From the Town hall Benitatxell is intended to achieve landscape integration and eradication of the source of spillage, hence, it is considered a priority to minimize the risk of fire due to the combustion of existing flammable materials such as plastics, tires, as well as bricks, tiles and ceramic materials.
