The Red Eyes Photography Festival kicks off in Peru

A new edition of the Ojos Rojos Festival, and it is already the fifth, starts in the municipalities of Xàbia and Dénia with the collaboration of the Asociación Arteria Urbana, the Consorci de Museus and the town halls of both towns. An important event that each year gains more emphasis and shows the high level of quality of guests and activities that this international festival of Spanish and Ibero-American photography entails, which this year has Peru as the guest country.

The presentation was attended by the director of the Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana, José Luís Pérez Pont, the Councilor for Culture of Xàbia, Quico Moragues, the Councilor for Youth of Dénia, Juan
Sapena, as well as the directors and curators of the event, Mili Sánchez and Mike Steel, as well as Cristina de
María Tomé and managers of some of the rooms that host this event.

All of them have described the extensive program of activities that this festival has, which starts today with a dozen exhibitions, talks and parallel activities that will allow, until next May, to enjoy legends of contemporary photography and discover voices. emergent in this artistic modality.

Without a doubt, the towns of Xàbia and Dénia will become the epicenter of national and transatlantic photography.

For his part, the director of the Consortium, José Luís Pérez Pont, pointed out that Ojos Rojos has positioned itself as a serious and powerful proposal to bring photography closer to citizens "hungry for culture".

From the Javea Town Hall, Councilor Quico Moragues thanked the involvement of Arteria Urbana for "surprising us every year and betting on very powerful names - like the great Isabel Muñoz - but also on local people". Both Moragues and the mayor of Youth de Dénia, Juan Sapena, have encouraged citizens to enjoy this great festival that will take over all municipal halls, private galleries and -in the case of Dénia- different urban spaces.

Mili Sánchez has broken down part of the content of this fifth edition that has a large female presence on the bill. Undoubtedly, the name in capital letters of this 2023 is Isabel Muñoz (winner of two World Press Photo; of the PHotoEspaña Award, Medal of Merit of Fine Arts in 2009 and National Photography Award of Spain 2016) that will occupy two spaces within the programming: the monographic exhibition “Between Cultures” (in the Casa del Cable) and a second at Recoleto Creative where he will share a room with the artists Pusha Petrov, Brume and Laura Lis.

In Xàbia

In Xábia you can also see the intimate work of Rocío Bueno; Madafaka & The Toxic Kiwis' R&R night vision; the phantasmagorical Amazon of the Peruvian Leslie Searles; the landscape diptychs by Tony Tirado; the work on the territory of the local artist Juan Carlos Juan and finally, the series on chance by Félix Grande Bagazgoitia.

In Denia

In Dénia you can see street exhibitions by the renowned Peruvian multidisciplinary artist Cecilia Paredes and the work of Aitor Fernández, which delves into the new family nuclei. For the first time, an exhibition is held in the CuidArt room of the Dénia Hospital by the photographer Vicente Albero.

And in rooms you can see the project of the Peruvian Mariel Vidal that investigates chance; the documentary work of Neus Solà on the gypsy female condition and the architecture taken to another level by José Conceptes.

Workshops

As for the workshops, this edition proposes those by photographers such as José Conceptes, Rocío Bueno and Aitor Fernández. And as a novelty, a documentary workshop by the Peruvian documentary filmmaker Javier Corcuera and the screening of the film "I'm Still Being", as well as a screening at the Jayan Cinema (Saturday, March 25 at 17:XNUMX p.m.) of the documentary by Angalía Mzungu (“ look at the white") that talks about the work of Isabel Muñoz and in which the photographer will be present.

Ojos Rojos maintains its classic activities such as viewing portfolios or the photographic market, which this year will have a festive atmosphere and will be enlivened by live music. The books Plastic Oceans by Carlos de Paz and Los Hijos del Ciervo by Jose Luís Carrillo will also be presented.

As a novelty, the Aula Ojos Rojos (MILIcianXs) will carry out a photographic action-performance in which an exhibition will be posted live in various streets of the Historic Center of Xàbia (walls and shop windows will be part of it)
with photographs and stories invented about them by the writer Antonio Magán.
