Approved: The Church of San Bartolomé, Property of Cultural Interest

The Plenary of the Consell has approved the decree that complements the declaration of Cultural Interest of the fortress church of San Bartolomé Apóstol de Xàbia. A procedure that began in March of 2017, in order to adapt it to the determinations required by the Valencian Cultural Heritage Law.

As early as 1931, the St. Bartholomew's Church it was declared a historical-artistic monument. Now, with this approval, the declaration will adapt to what is stipulated by the Cultural Heritage Law, by determining the component parts of the property, determining the protective environment, establishing the corresponding protective regulations and marking the property. of local relevance that are located.

Well protected

This church of Xàbia is one of an example of Elizabethan Gothic art. It is a construction of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century, conceived as a fortress temple, with a single nave with chapels between buttresses. This character of strength is also seen on the outside, initially cubic in appearance, although at present it is partly distorted by the sacristy and chapel of the communion, built later.

The decree includes a list of the integral parts of the property (nave, sacristies, chapels, bell tower, pulpit ...), as well as all the personal property, belongings and accessories.

Likewise, assets of local relevance that are located in the surroundings of the asset are included: monuments of local interest, such as the house Town hall, the municipal market and other buildings that are located in the surroundings, and ethnological spaces such as various ceramic panels.

In addition to complementing the declaration as a cultural interest with the category of monument, the decree also establishes a series of protection measures that include permitted uses and the regime of interventions in the environment of the property.
