The municipal water company of Xàbia, Amjasa, has commemorated the International Day of Water with an informative visit to the desalination plant addressed to high school students of the IES. Nº 1 and Antoni Llidó.
Its directors signed the renewal of the collaboration agreement signed previously. Both centers are committed to instill students with a responsible use of water and educate trasversalmente on this subject.
One example of this collaboration is that students who will be in charge of reading the counters and in their homes, in math class analyze water bills and the chemical characteristics of the desalination process. In return, Amjasa assumes the cost of drinking water in both centers.
The mayor and chairman of the municipal company, José Chulvi, has signed this agreement, insisting on the importance of the younger ones becoming aware that water is a limited essential good and, therefore, must be used in a rational way.
Chulvi highlighted the current situation of Amjasa and leadership in seeking a regional, justice and solidarity solution to the water problem.
The company has also presented a new supply service regulation to replace the current one, without updating since 1976. This has been unanimously approved by the Board of Directors and will be brought to plenary session this month. Its objective is to adapt the rights and duties of water to the current regulatory framework and to the general criteria of rational use, conservation and improvement of the environment, sustainability, and recovery of service costs, prioritizing the supply to homes and social services basics (sanitary, sanitation, hygiene).
In this regard, the CEO, Josep Lluis Henarejos, has revealed that, among the new features is vital to ensure the basic supply (100 liters per day) to families at risk of social exclusion or energy poverty. Henarejos has revealed that Amjasa already has a special sensitivity to subscribers traversing an economic situation that complicates take water bills.

Water Observatory
Another of the projects in which work has been done in recent months and which is being carried out in full this month is the Water Observatory, a new body for citizen participation in the Town hall of Jávea, of a consultative, informative, advisory and proposal nature, for the promotion of initiatives related to the supply, sanitation, purification and reuse of municipal water.
Among its functions is to propose suggestions, initiatives and proposals to resolve the problem of water service in the city, gather opinions, report on action programs, budgets and service fees, promote the development of studies or research on the integrated water cycle, to identify needs, among others.
