Thanks to its light, its coast and its beauty Javea has captivated prestigious painters, among them Joaquin Sorolla, April, Ricardo Verde and recorder Lambert.
In October 1896, Joaquin Sorolla Bastida, arrived in Xàbia where he fell in love with the sea and especially with the lower corner of the Cape San Antonio.
Sorolla shortly after his arrival sent a letter to his wife Clotilde saying:
"It's the place I always dreamed of, Sea and Mountain
But Que Mar !, we who live in Valencia cannot have a fair idea of this great nature; Cabo de San Antonio is another wonder; huge reddish monument, immense and its color in the waters gives a clean and a bright, pure green, a colossal emerald ... "
Sorolla painted at least 107 pictures in Jávea, of which the vast majority are in private collections and the Museum of Madrid, whose visit is recommended because it is like being in Javea.
