10 October 2022 - 09: 00

The institutional act of October 9 took place this past Sunday, in the Plaza de la Iglesia, with the presence of authorities and neighbors and coinciding with the Valencian festival, after it had to be postponed due to the forecast of rain.

The celebration of October 9 marked the delivery of the Vila de Xàbia Awards. On the one hand, one of the awards was given to the Xàbia Artistic Musical Center for its history and great presence in the social, festive and cultural life of the town, as well as for its educational function, dissemination of music and social cohesion. .

Precisely the musicians had a special role in this festive act. From the entrance to the plaza de la banda to the rhythm of Fogueres, to the performance of one of the pieces from the Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack by the Orchestra as a prelude to the ceremony.

The two groups together with the Banda Jove have offered an emotional joint interpretation of the most international pasodoble: Xàbia, by Salvador Salvá, and have closed the act with the regional anthem live.

On the other hand, and at an individual level, Esperanza Salvatierra (posthumously) and Pep Segarra have been honored. Salvatierra, a teacher for several decades at the IES Antoni Llidó, has been awarded this award for her significant background in local associations in entities such as the Housewives, the Red Cross or Amics de Thiviers. In addition, this xabiera was an active part of the Escola de Teatre, of the Teatre Garum group and she was passionate about local gastronomy where she left a record of them in different publications. Among her applause, the Vila de Xàbia award was collected by her grandchildren Carla and Miguel.

In the case of Pep Segarra, the Prize has been awarded for his great cultural and naturist work. Segarra is an ecologist and defender of nature, closely involved in the fight to preserve the Montgo and especially the natural environment of Portitxol, in addition to creating the route of viewpoints.

In sports, Pep Segarra was promoter and first president of the Club de Basket Joventut; and in Culture, he has made donations to the Museum of various archaeological and artistic legacies from his relative, Segarra Llamas.

Mayor, José Chulvi, closed the act claiming the joy and pride of being a town, appealing to continue loving Xàbia and its history. “A story that is us, the people we love, every street of the town where we feel at home. Our history is not asleep, but alive. In the music, in the party, in the shops that open every morning or the fish market that sells the sailors' fish; in the teachers, in the young people who study pursuing a dream…in solidarity, in the neighborhood and in the town”.

But, how is it that they have not held the event in the Auditorium?

  2. Miquel says:

It is incredible that the awards are tarnished by politics and the winners are selected by hand while there are people who deserve special recognition for their work in this town, for example associations, businessmen, anonymous people who have helped with a lot of money, food and a roof to the Ukrainian refugees who have come to Jávea.
Also exemplary neighbors that I have seen cleaning streets, picking up trash and helping people.
They only see what they want to see but the people who really deserve a prize are all those neighbors who, without giving anything in return, contribute their grain of sand.
For me all my congratulations to all those people that the City Council turns its back on, my recognition goes to all of you.

      I think the same.
These "people" from the City Council are very unpleasant, I know they know it, that is enough for me.
