Xàbia retrieves its Municipal Archive, 82 years later

82 years later, Xàbia recovers its Municipal file. It did so last night, October 8, 2018, with an official opening ceremony, in which the doors of the new facilities that house the Municipal Archive were opened. A paper titled L'arxiu de Xàbia hui in day, gave beginning to this event with which part of the history of Xàbia is recovered, in which we can know that previously it was called; Xabea, Ysabee or Jávea.

Now, the documented history of Xàbia is located in the D'Avall street, next to the Santa Ana chapel. For two days, on October 10 and 11, there will be an open day for all citizens who want to know the new department , prior registration in the municipal libraries and next week, it will be the school children of Xàbia who make the visit.

In the presentation, the municipal archivist, Juanjo Más, highlighted the moment when virtually all the documentation was lost, "It was the most serious episode, it happened in the summer of 1936 when documents, images were burned and on August 16 of that same year the Municipal Archive was burned", says Más and adds that "they entered the Town hallThey loaded the documents into various carts and burned them in the river".

Now, recovered part of the history of Xàbia, More indicates that it was thanks to the work of José Segarra Llamas, who approached the river and was able to retrieve part of the documentation ". So far, the documents have been going through several municipal buildings, from the top floor of the City Hall, through the House of Falange, "Until in 1988, the secretary of the City Council put Catalina Cardona in charge of organizing the archive", said the archivist.

The former cooperative was also the site of the archive and in 1989, Catalina herself was in charge of the historical archive and Salvador Crespo of the later, as explained by More. Curiosities
