Xàbia allows to celebrate the 'Nit de Sant Joan' on its beaches but without bonfires

23 June 2020 - 16: 54

The celebration of the magical June night, the 'Nit de Sant Joan', has been cut short in several towns in the Community and cities in Spain by the COVID-19 pandemic.

And it is that, without a doubt, the night of June 23 to 24, is a special party, which especially, in the province of Alicante, where it coincides with the celebration of the festivities of Hogueras (Fogueres), is lived in a very different. Spending tonight, the shortest of the year, facing the sea, is almost a traditional date.

However, this year, this event cannot be held in the vast majority of municipalities. In the Marina Alta region, only three towns, including Xàbia, have allowed the beaches to be open for dinner or bathing, but in no case can bonfires be lit or fireworks can be launched.

Likewise, the consistory reminds citizens that it is also necessary to respect the natural environment (without leaving garbage remains) and keeping preventive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

For this day, Xàbia activates a special surveillance and security device in which Local Police officers and Civil Protection volunteers will work so that the night passes without incident.
