Xàbia tourism management model for students of the University of Alicante

A group of students from 4º degree of Tourism of the Universitat d'Alacant visited Xàbia in order to study their tourism development and management model first hand. The group was led by Professor Josep Ivars, former director of the Valencian Institute of Tourism Technologies.

The main activity consisted of a talk at the House of Culture in which were present the councilman of Economic Development, and Cesc Camprubí mayor of Tourism, Pilar Zamora. In the same, in charge of the technician of Tourism, Carol Cholbi, it was, among other subjects, of the direct relation that there is between urban development and territorial planning and tourism, society and economic model.

In this sense Xàbia stressed that enroll in an expansive development model that after periods of intense growth that marked the physiognomy of the municipality, is now seeking interventions that respect the landscape and environmental heritage and value added. This, explained Cesc Camprubí, it can be found in the creation of new hotel rooms or in care homes, among others.

Strategic Plan as a planning tool model city

Another point of interest was the analysis of the strategic plan as a planning tool consensus model city. In this regard, there is a document of the year 2011 in which different actions to be bulged and currently being analyzed to measure the degree of compliance, what actions are finished, which have lost their meaning over time and what should be added according to the new context.

The axes of this plan are sustainable development, participation of all stakeholders and, in the case of tourism, what decisions put in place to preserve the character and success of the model. From tourism were presented as an example seasonalisation campaigns, thematic and cultural tours and gastronomic events covered under the brand Gastroxabia.

Also, mention was made of some of the physical and sociological development condionantes and tourism management in Xàbia such as the existence of three towns (Arenal, Port and Historic Center), along with an extensive spread of housing developments, and composition census in which more than 50% are foreign-born residents, mostly European.
